SlickdealsForumsDeal Talk8ch H.265 NVR LaView 4MP 2688x1520 Full PoE IP Camera Security System w/ 4 x 4MP 2688x1520) In / Outdoor IP Cameras $370 + free s/h
Remember to follow some basics to help keep your IP cameras / NVR secure:
1) Do not port forward.
2) Change default passwords
3) Turn off UPnP on router
4) Use a VPN setup on your router to allow you to access the cameras remotely. ( this is different than a VPN service some may have purchased that allows you to go out of your home to another IP address, you need one to allow you to come into your home )
In general motion detection tech leaves a lot to be desired.
For the best results combine security cameras with a good security alarm setup.
Some cameras and NVR do take alarm input signals to trigger alerts / video captures.
( this is ideal )
As im2c0ol notes, it is possible to buy more advanced and feature rich security camera systems / cameras.
If you are not under a immediate threat do take some time to read the notes I have posted in the wiki and the notes at ipcamtalk.
Hi Struck,
I would make certain that a UPS is feeding your DVR, as often power surges can take out adapters.
Given that you currently have a system up and working, do take some time to review the notes I mention and decide on your functional needs first and then determine what would work for that.
IF YOU have good quality coax cables run to good locations ( i.e. not the typical crappy cheap cable that came with your kit ) then I would consider a coax system as that way you can save time on the cabling. ( this even though I prefer IP PoE systems as I know how much time running cabling can take. )
If you have poor quality cable, or poor locations then definitely look at going with cat6/5e cable - even if you decide to go w/a coax bnc kit you can use baluns w/the cat6/5e cable and maximize your future options.
HI Star
iirc there was a 4TB seagate NAS HDD on sale for about $100 listed here ....
While getting a proper surveillance HDD would be preferred, you should be able to use a NAS rated one w/o issues in that system.
Also, while you're waiting if you have an older SATA HDD around I would try that in the mean while.
This seems similar to a previous Newegg sale that had 2x2mp and 2x4mp for $280. Are the 2 upgraded cameras worth the $90 price difference? (Laview site shows 2mp cameras at $85 and 4mp at $109)

i am no expert but this is 8 Channel NVR with H.265 Video Compression and 4K Output
older was 8 Channel NVR with H.264+ Video Compression
I got the other setup with the 2x2mp camera is junk during day view, video during daytime are horrible to compare with my old 720P Foscam. They work great during night time, I would prefer 4MP cameras than not having usable daytime identification.

My 3mp (ip) Swann gets license plate from about 20-30 feet away if car is parked or slowley moving up. So this set should do much better job
