In my opinion, even though these are made in Taiwan, the quality is just as good as the old USA based Craftsman stuff. I haven't broken anything yet, but in other threads for Tekton people have said it only takes one phone call or email to get a replacement (these are all lifetime warranty and Tekton is USA based).
Different sized fasteners and different torque ratings. For example you would use a 1/4" ratchet for a valve cover, a 3/8" for the middle ground and 1/2" for suspension work.

What would be different uses for 1/4 , 3/8, or 1/2?
In general, you aren't going to find a 24" breaker bar for 1/4" sockets and if you put that much torque on them you'd likely break them. 3/8" and 1/2" can have higher torque amounts applied to them without breaking.

I have the 1/2" master set and have used it for upper control arms, struts, lug nuts with an impact no problem at all. I personally love my set.
Sizes of the nuts and bolts and torque.
I too have the 1/2" I just use the adapter to save money.
