Also, many locations offer really good deals on 10 piece nuggets or big macs (between free and $2) when local sports teams do something like get a sack, or 5 runs etc. The deal automatically appears the next day. I always check for these if I'm in need of a quick meal while travelling through airports.
Place a mobile order with deal of your choice, using the app. Once you arrive at McDonalds, check in and choose "pick up inside". This charges your method of payment and clears your order out of the mobile app. Then, proceed to counter and make an additional order with a different coupon. It makes it a bit less awkward than making multiple separate orders at the counter.

The coupon will ALWAYS apply it to the lowest cost burger.
Pro Tip;
I talking to the cashier about how to best take advantage of this coupon. It will actually cover a "double quarter pounder" if you *add* a patty to a singer quarter pounder. Cashier says this is the trick he does himself to take advantage of coupon.
My comment was simply asking you why you would bring up an imaginary concern. If you had tried to use the app, and had a question, I can understand that. But to ask a question which would be answered as soon as you try to use this offer, I wanted some insight into a mind that would inquire such needless concern.

I just hate when I get people that want to charge me for the leaf when I get a bun less sandwich. McD's needs some standards for when people forgo the bun. At least chik-fil-a puts a cost on the bun so if you go no bun and add lettuce, they pretty much cancel each other out. And I wish they'd go with iceberg. Their lettuce quality is extremely variable. Sometimes it just seems so far from fresh. Most places I go that have iceberg always seem to be fresh and crisp. Makes it easier to handhold too.

Also, with the ability to customize sandwiches at McD's, you can pretty much create a deluxe or club. It's just going to eat into the savings. Bacon is an expensive add on.
Bacon adds $1.19 and they don't cheese even offer Swiss cheese although you can get other cheese for $0.40.
Also you can get another sandwich with bacon and cheese for a buck and cannibalize it... If you were thrifty
go into the order section, select your store then check deals

It was not an imaginary concern. I was on my way out the door to do exactly as I stated. I order via voice at the drive through window and not the app. At drive through cashier is where you show the coupon. Was wondering if placing the higher priced item first in the order would mean the coupon would apply to that higher prices item or vice versa.
What's needless is asking if I even tried it. Had I tried it, I would have already had the answer and wouldn't be asking the question.

This is the way it worked for me today at drive through:
Ordered the Egg McMuffin first, then ordered the Bacon McDouble plus lettuce and tomato.
Went to drive up cashier and gave her the app coupon on phone.
It gave me the more expensive sandwich ( the Egg McMuffin) for $1 and charged $2.50 for the Bacon McDouble plus lettuce and tomato.
Could be lots of permutations and combinations and as you say randomness with drive through cashier. She didn't seem to do anything other than scan the coupon and it seemed their system automatically did it.
Don't know if it will do the first sandwich ordered for the $1 every time. It did this time. YMMV.

Or still cheaper ordering egg and cheese biscuit sans coupon?
Separately, is $.49 cone one time, and disappears forever? Or daily?
