Amazon Discounts, Deals and Coupon Codes

Is anyone else upset about Amazon using extremely unethical practices to give "discounts" this prime day? This is ridiculous.

I have seen this on countless products today. Let's take a look at a limited lightening deal for some hefty storage slider bags:

https://www.amazon.com/Hefty-Slid...B00NMVYPEG

Strike thru price = $30.86. "WITH DEAL" = $11.54. A savings of $19.32.

This was a front page amazon prime deal, stating 63% off.

This sounds amazing until we look into the price history of these bags.

I've attached the screenshots of Camel3 showing that these bags have hovered between $9.99 and $14.89 since 2015. Last week they put the price to $30.86 and then made it a prime day lightening "deal" down to $11.54.

I'm sorry, but not only is this unethical, but this is flat out manipulation.

Isn't it great you get to decide not to buy from a specific company if you want?

Many B&M stores have been caught doing the same.

During their Prime day coverage last night my local TV new showcased a few examples of a deal not really being a deal and a few that were. The suggestion was to check Camel-Camel before purchasing.

They do this every day, not just on Prime Day. I looked at a couple of things that were supposed to be Prime Day deals and they were about the same price as the last time I bought them so I quit looking. I had better things to do with my time.

You - "unethical"

The price hike before lightning deals is often large. Sales rank declines precipitously allowing inventory to surpass standard levels immediately prior to the lightning deal period.

Good thing Walmart never thought of this with their Price Rollback sales.

Oh wait....

So a company jacks up a price before a sale such that the sale price, while supposedly a HUGE discount, is actually normal price?

Bro, do you even Kohl's?

This is done on at least a semi-regular basis by pretty much every major retailer, especially before big sales events. I don't trust the "regular" price of any item on Amazon or most other online retailers.

I only bought two things on Prime Day, and I knew the price on one of them was a deal as soon as I saw it. Even if I didn't, it's easy enough to highlight the text of the item and do a Google search to see what others are charging for it or keep CCC open in the background.

You're right that this specific deal shouldn't have made the front page, but I'll forgive Slickdeals that for the simple scale of the "deals" available during that day. While it may be technically unethical on Amazon's side, it's akin to saying you're a criminal for driving over the speed limit.

I was up for a few days, but I figured that was mostly the meth. I suppose there's no good reason I can't blame it on the devil Beelzebezos.

Go check mattress sales and prices, they will bring in a different model number with a $1000.00 price tag have it at that price for a couple of weeks then offer it at 70% off. It will go on sale every quarter and they will never sell one at full price.
