In general the Walmart employee will not be very helpful, so for best results follow these steps
1. Use Brickseek to check for inventory and print the barcode
2. Take the printed barcode to the store and scan it yourself at a register where you can see the screen. I use the register at Guns/Ammo, Paint or Clothing.
3. Once you have verified that the Store Inventory system confirms it is in stock go to electronics
4. Tell Electronics your stores inventory system shows x in stock I need x. Tell the employee the phone is an unlocked phone and not a prepaid phone so I was told it would be in a locked drawer (The drawer is marked Premium). The phone is kept in a separate section away from the prepaid phones. (Walmart keeps Prepaid and Unlocked phones in a separate areas to prevent confusion, generally unlocked phones are found in a locked drawer by the register)
The employee may not be very helpful because there are suspicions the phones are acquired by insiders and flipped on Ebay. Walmart Employees have been consistently rude and unhelpful in selling me deep discounted clearance phones. You may have to be persistent to get them to open the locked drawer next to the registrar with the unlocked phones.
If you are able to get an employee to open the drawer, try to position yourself so you can see inside the drawer. The phone is in a bright Orange box. If you get the phone, verify the seal has not been altered and the phone has 32GB.
This is important!!! Do not buy the phone unless you verify the seal has not been tampered with and it has 32GB.
In general Walmart limits the sale of 2 prepaid phones per customer. This phone is unlocked and not prepaid so in theory there should be no limit on how many you can buy. Walmart.com shows the limit as 8 per transaction. In my opinion the Walmart employee are poorly trained and may try to limit you to 2 phones.
The is not a deal for the weak or timid. Good Luck.
(I know Walmart management follows this forum. Since you gave the employees raises they have become ruder than ever. Your store is consistently ranked the lowest in customer service. You should expect this years rating to be even lower, if such is possible. Here is an idea, go back the the system that Sam Walton intended. Have the wage low, but give each employee a small share of stock in the company each paycheck, and post the price of the stock at the entrance to the employee break room.)
Questions and Answers
Is this a Slickdeal price?
This phone is being discontinued. It will not be updated to the newest version of Android. You may be catching a falling knife. Trying to be as diplomatic as possible, I only consider a phone deal slick, if I can find multiple phones and the phone I keep is free. In the coming weeks you should see the price of the 32GB model fall; however, there is strong demand at the $99 price point, so inventory will be limited at the lower price.
Please note a lower price of $49 has been verified.
Why do I have to have a printed barcode from Brickseek?
You will need to take a printed barcode to the store. The employee may need to take the barcode to a different register to find a working scanner. The employee may also need to take the barcode to the back to verify the UPC matches the phone you are wanting. It is a really, really, really bad idea to let a Walmart employee walk around with your phone.
Why do I need to make sure the phone seal is not broken?
Walmart has a very strict policy of not selling phones with a broken seal or torn box. However, if you follow the steps correctly, the first time the Walmart employee will become aware of the phones price is when you tell him "I know you have inventory and I want to buy it". Frequently, on Walmart phone clearance deals, if you only ask for one phone you will be brought a phone with a broken seal and/or torn box. My advice is to ask for all of the phones you have verified are in inventory. When the employee returns with the phones (they will only bring 2) try and look at the seal, and purchase one that is sealed and the box looks new. (Warning, it can be very difficult to get a look at the seal before you purchase the phone, but you need to insist upon seeing the seal before you buy it) If you do not want the other phones just tell them you changed your mind and only want one phone.
If you accept a phone that is not sealed it can be very difficult to return (Returns will insist they never sell phones with broken seals or torn boxes) you will be responsible if there is any damage to the phone and they may not accept the return.
Why the Cloak and Dagger?
The steps I provided are currently the only verified Slickdeal method to access the Stores real-time inventory and price. If the phone is shown in inventory on the Register Screen, it is in inventory, stolen, cannot be found or not in saleable condition. Knowing this information gives you a starting point in trying to negotiate your purchase of the phone. Remember, you are not asking if they have the phone, you are asking for all of the phones shown in the stores real-time inventory system. You may have to make repeated request to have the employee check the inventory using the register.
The Employee Hand Scanner does not show real time inventory
Brickseek does not show real time inventory
Walmart.com does not show real-time inventory.
I followed your steps precisely, the Register Screen Shows 2 in stock and I was unable to get the phone. Why?
If the real time inventory is 2 or 3 it can be tough to get the phone. If your store has an employee on site that sales monthly service plans they are holding the phone for customers that are wanting to buy a plan. If you need a plan, change the question to, I am willing to buy a plan if you can find the phone. It is possible the phone is lost etc, but most likely the Mobile Department has it. I have been able to score these phones by getting a rookie employee to open the drawer or showing up at a 24 hour Walmart at 2am. These phones are almost impossible to get, so leave them for the Slickdeal Pros.
Why do you recommended to never allow the employee to scan the barcode with the hand scanner?
The hand scanner is not real time. The phone may have been purchased earlier in the day and you are wasting your time. You can not pay for the phone at the hand scanner. To buy the phone you are going to need to be at the register. You only want to deal with someone who has access to the register and can sell you the phone. The employee you just handed the barcode to has a hand scanner but may not work in that department, however, he now also wants the phone. In my experience letting the bar code be scanned by an employee with a hand scanner is similar to calling to ask if they have the phone. You are bringing another pig to the trough, reducing the likelihood you will get the phone or multiple phones. Go to the register and insist the bar code by scanned by the register. Make it clear you have been told there are x in stock.
"2. Take the printed barcode to the store and scan it yourself at a register where you can see the screen. I use the register at Guns/Ammo, Paint or Clothing."
Does this mean that you can go to any unmanned register, swipe the barcode and get the inventory info?
Yes, this is currently the only Slickdeal verified way to obtain real time inventory for the store. Show some common sense, be discreet and fast. I often get at an angle to the counter, scan and lean over to see the register screen. The easiest place for beginners to try is at the clothing register. My advice is to never show the barcode to a Walmart employee until you have verified inventory and you are at a register where you can buy the phone. If you do it right, the employee will only learn the price of the phone when you pay. If you hear the phrase "That can't be right" give yourself a high five.

magnificent detail and helpfulness
Regarding the deal price itself, I'd get yet another moto at $79 or under, but it's good phone for the money even at $99 if I were desperate now.
Yea I get this on daily basis
My local Walmart reported five in stock, but they were locked in back. After a 10 minute wait, the supervisor eventually came to get and bring one out.
It's the orange box and the sticker says "MOTO E4 PLUS 32GB GR" but the box was definitely unsealed - in fact, one flap was torn off.
Otherwise things look intact. Should I be concerned?
