If you're not mechanically inclined to maintain Mercedes yourself OR have shitload of money to afford "outrageous" maintenance cost at the dealer, you shouldn't own one.
Sure it costs a lot to maintain these vehicles but you get what you pay for. I'm not necessarily saying the cost is justified for everyone but they are sure nice to drive and look at, at least for me. And given that I bought an older model with high miles, I got a great deal(initial purchase price) and doing maintenance myself have saved thousands of dollars compared to taking it to the dealer. Currently it has most of the front suspension components replaced and it drives real nice.
For oil changes I like to buy oil from Costco and take it to $19.99/24.99 oil change shop and have them change with oil I bring and let them use their "included" oil filter. It comes out less than $60 all together.
Many maintenance items are manageable at home with right tools and there are lots of DIYs you can find online or you can even buy a manual.
I really hope this thread doesn't blow up with hatred towards Mercedes owners and dealer's high price(yes, I too feel like that dealers service cost is outrageously expensive) like the last time service coupon was posted.

Any ideas if this works for brakes? Terms state vehicle maintenance and was not sure if brakes are included in their definition of maintenance.

I did it last time. I called beforehand though to make sure. They did take it.
