Lenovo.com is offering Lenovo Thinkpad E485 14" Laptop on sale for $460.27 when following the instructions. Shipping is free. Thanks Suryasis & couchpotato013
The A485 (https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/lapt...nu-id=A485) should be out by then, but is a higher class and price than the E485. It might push the cost of the E series thinkpads lower though. Both A485 and E485 (and 585s) are missing thunderbolt though, but have USB-C. The T480 will still be better than the A485.
When I mentioned having both slots filled, I'm referring to the RAM. Vega graphics benefit from Dual Channel ram, which needs both slots filled.
Some notes on the naming scheme
Class | Screen size | Generation | Intel/AMD
A | 4 | 8 | 5
Class in order of price/durability: X>P>T>A>E . A and T are supposed to be the same class, A just for being AMD. But other countries are noticing inferior parts/options.
Screen size: 4 for 14 inch. 5 for 15 inch. 3 for 13 inch
Generation: The #8 is for 8th generation intels (or product line, haven't figured it out or cared enough), the current model. A E475 will be last year's model of similar features, but AMD due to the 5.
Intel/AMD: A E480 will be Intel. A E485 will be AMD.
Cheaper by using the perks offer.

Save up for a decent memory kit if you hope to unlock the best performance that Raven Ridge has to offer. As our tests show, a dual-channel kit is mandatory. Otherwise, the halved bandwidth of a single-channel configuration is devastating to gaming performance. This advice also applies to anyone shopping for a laptop with a Ryzen Mobile processor
The actual frequency of the memory is only one variable in the equation. Yes, increasing the speed of the memory will also increase the speed of the fabric which helps in any area where having a faster bus improves performance. However, going from single channel to dual channel effectively doubles your memory bandwidth, which helps in certain types of multi-threaded workloads.
Thanks for this. I just used the PerksOffer to get one with 4GB RAM (will replace with NewEgg dual channel 16GB) and Windows 10 Pro for just under $443 with tax.
I have a T450; great machine with a perfect keyboard, but I'd be hesitant to buy another without trying it out in person. The supposedly IPS screen is significantly washed out and dim compared to my wife's HP Spectre. It worked fine and I figured I could live with it, but now I find myself constantly using an external monitor because there's such a night and day difference.

Yeah my 450s is definitely lacking some color but at least viewing angles are good. For under 500 using the perk code it's hard to pass up, nearly checks every box since I'm looking to go to USB pd and carry one charger for everything when traveling.
Interesting model just b/c of ryzen
But NO DOCK, battery seems to be non-replaceble = this is not thinkpad really
does lenovo have other models with ryzen?

I believe the P series is supposed to be the top of the line workstation class machines and the X and T series are in the same class with X focusing on portability and T focusing on durability. I believe the A series is either similar to the E series or the L series which you left off your list.
Under "^ Parts" click on "show more" under "Commodity type", go to "Rechargeable batteries". If you don't see Commodity type, click on schematics and then back to Parts to have it show up. You do not need to type in a serial#. There's 4 batteries, as there's different part providers. I believe the batteries are "internal" but removable as they plug in rather than soldered on or glued in place.
There are also many youtube videos of people using Ryzen 5. I haven't watched it to know if it's good or bad. It seems playable on low setting though.

I am looking for a laptop after 5 years old laptop ( samsung ativ tab?). So no idea of price trend.
Is this good price? or do i have to wait for black friday as someone mentioned above?
Good price for a decent laptop, but not a hot deal. Usually 14 inch laptops cost more than 15 inch. Ryzen is a fairly new processor that has a decent integrated graphics card in it. For casual gaming on a budget, the Ryzen 5 (which comes with Vega 8) is a better overall performer over an Intel i5 with it Intel HD graphics. So a 14 inch for $430 that can do everything that the average consumer wants is good.
Note that the perks offer applies to everything, should the E485 not be to your liking. Ideapads may be cheaper, but not as well built as a Thinkpad E-Series. The E and L series are at the bottom of the Thinkpad line in quality, but are still built better than other consumer laptops you find at Best Buy or Walmart.
