First deal post. I found this dumbbell set on sale at Walmart. Comes to $0.47/pound. That's cheaper than used weights I've found. Looks to be in pretty good stock around me.
Can someone clarify on me on this one, is it max 20 lb per dumbell or 40 lbs per dumbell? I am thinking it is 40 lbs total, 20 lb per dumbbell but not sure

Judging from the comments, it appears to be 4 7.5lb weights and 4 2.5lb weights, so 40lbs total.

as i need 60 lbs total right now (30 per arm) and building up on weights.. so maybe 80 lbs total, so I pick up 2 of these or wait for a sale? i don't need it right away, as I am working out at a gym.. but would be nice to have a set for home workouts for in-between days and snow storms

look on Craigslist. I just grabbed an olympic 300lb set with bar for $300...looking for these type bars now but this doesn't look like a good long term plan if you are serious about working out.
The cheap ones are huge vinyl weights filled with sand prone to cracking and leaking if used hard, Tubes with end caps used for handles and crappy clamp collars that secure the weights that can slide off during use.
The other is steel plates, much smaller and same weight, solid steel 3 lb handles and spin lock collars to secure the weights. For 10 more dollars much better.
The size of the vinyl weights alone makes adding more weight to the bars almost impossible before you run out of room to clamp it. Whereas the steel, you can see in the picture, several more plates can fit.
Got these for $14 at a local walmart few months ago. Felt like a steal but the clips come loose all the time. Spend a little more and get better ones. It's not like you buy a pair of dumbbells every month.

I think you got hosed depending on brand. I got a 300 lb Olympic set from dicks for 135$ not long ago. They often have it around that price. Brand new.
