On sale right now at Dick's Sporting Goods are the Okuma Stratus V reels. Right now they are all on sale (50%-58% off) but in check out you will see an additonal 15% taken off (max $30 savings) during checkout. The additonal 15% in checkout expires on 9/26 @ 11:59 PM PT. Free shipping for orders over $49.

I have never personally used these before but they are highly rated for cheap saltwater reels and I'm looking forward to giving them a try. Happy fishing!

What size would be good for both flounder fishing in Galveston and bass in Dallas? Would the spinning 45 be good?

Question will be how big & shore off shore . Here in NYC we get them from shore & deep waters . 3500-4500 will cover you all the way to 10 pounds easy & will not fail you even if the flounder is 20 pounds . You will simply have to work harder with the smaller reel .

Just bank and pier right now so look like 45 will do. Thanks

I've been using Okuma spinning reels for years in freshwater bass fishing. I haven't had any problems with them. If I needed another reel I wouldn't hesitate to buy one...catches fish just as good as any more expensive reel.

Good deal. Thanks OP. I am primarily an Abu guy but have really liked the Okuma stuff I've thrown.

Used the baitcaster for around 5 times on my boat (ocean). The drag became either very light or very tight after the 3rd time fishing. On the fifth time, the ball bearings attached to the spool fail. I sprayed freshwater water on it every time, lasted 5 trips in 4 months. I then replaced it with 1 x $10 ceramic ball bearings. Learned my lesson not to buy cheap reel.

Would the 65 be good for Salmon? Large Musky and Pike?

Is the spinning reel a good starter rod?

Edit: Found the answer to my own question. This is only the reel. No rod.
