What I wish I would have known in linking. A--There is only one button on each unit. I will call it the Test/Silence button since that is what it is labeled. 1--The first unit you turn on becomes the master unit. 2--When you turn on additional units you must hold the Test/Silence button as you are pushing in the battery pack. Only release the Test/Silence button once you have heard a single short beep. This beep should happen within a few seconds. Immediately push the Test/Silence button on the master unit (first unit powered on). This will link the two units. 3--When turning on the 3rd unit hold the Test/Silence button as you push in the battery pack. Again, once you have heard the beep, release and immediately push the Test/Silence button on the master unit (first unit powered on). This will link the 3rd alarm.

"There's a myth that carbon monoxide alarms should be installed lower on the wall because carbon monoxide is heavier than air. In fact, carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and diffuses evenly throughout the room.

According to the carbon monoxide guidelines of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 720, 2005 edition), all carbon monoxide alarms "shall be centrally located outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms," and each alarm "shall be located on the wall, ceiling or other location as specified in the installation instructions that accompany the unit.""
I'm a chemist. Carbon monoxide is actually slightly lighter than air and will diffuse evenly throughout a room. It doesn't matter where you put the detector for carbon monoxide. Smoke is heated, so it rises upwards.
This is the wireless version, not hardwired, they are not the interconnected type. Details are here:
https://www.firstalert.com/produc...-operated/

The Costco 3 pack is here and is wireless and interconnected:
https://www.costco.com/First-Aler...47069.html
They are believed to be this model:
https://www.firstalert.com/produc...-location/

So that comes out to about $4 more each for the interconnected type @ Costco.

They also had a 2 pack in the store for $79.99 so I am assuming those may be on sale too starting today. item 1245670

The other Costco 2 pack mentioned in this thread (2 for $30) are not CO detectors, just smoke alarms.
https://www.costco.com/First-Aler...51491.html
Local warehouse price for the 2 pk smoke & fire alarm for me is $29.99 and the stand alone carbon monoxide alarm [costco.com] is $34.99. YMMV. Coupon book brings it to $22.99 and $24.99, respectively starting today.
They are this model here:
https://www.firstalert.com/produc...r-battery/
Model #: P1210 warehouse model: P1210CP2

Other Costco options here: https://www.costco.com/alarms-detectors.html

First Alert Smoke/CO detector models here:
https://www.firstalert.com/produc...de-alarms/

Please check local codes, in California you need one smoke detector in every bedroom. In some places they have to be hardwired only.

For CO, more info from California Fire Marshal here: http://osfm.fire.ca.gov/strucfire...noxide.pdf

According to http://osfm.fire.ca.gov/, some Kidde products have been recently recalled.

One last thing, some city fire departments offer free installation of smoke alarm for seniors.

This is not the wireless version so I would say they should work together since they are independent of each other. I have bought the wireless version last December and I have 1 on each floor. I still need to buy the Samsung Smart Home router to connect both detector. However, this new deal on Amazon is cheap enough to buy for each bedroom in the house even though it is not wireless.

I can see these use batteries. Are they also wired to 110V? If so, can they work on 230V?

I'm pretty sure you need ones that are specifically labeled with the ability to talk to each other through the wire.

FYI, most brands recommend that you don't mix with other brands. 2 things can happen: you get false alarms and wake up at 2am to a blaring alarm. 2) maybe they don't work together when you need them. I happened to be investigating mixing a different brand in to replace a faulty unit that set off my others. At 2am.

Hardwire with battery backup model is nicer but this is a good deal nonetheless.
