What to do in Las Vegas? (NO OT)

12,150 1,493 October 7, 2018 at 11:33 AM
Going to Las Vegas for 5 days for work. I'm married with kids, don't drink/party. What is worth seeing/doing while I'm there?

These list various family-friendly activities (will the kids will be with you?). If if the kids aren't joining you, there is lots to do that doesn't involving partying, drinking, gambling, etc.

Driving out to see Hoover Dam is worth the time, IMHO.

Every time I go to Vegas I think to myself: "Is this the trip that I'll finally drive out to the Dam or the Grand Canyon or one of the other relatively nearby excursions?"

And inevitably, I realize how dumb an idea that is. Vegas has so much to offer (at least for me, since I love to gamble and enjoy the high end dining and relaxing with the nice amenities and whatnot), why would I want to LEAVE Vegas after planning a trip to go there? Unless I'm in Vegas for like 2 weeks, I have no desire to LEAVE my vacation destination to go somewhere else. My typical 5 days there go by like the snap of a finger, I'd rather spend my days in pools and spas and my nights at shows and clubs and on the gambling floor than waste any time actually leaving to go somewhere else. I know families and people who don't actually like what Vegas is all about will feel differently but that begs the question: why go to Vegas at all? Just plan a trip to the Grand Canyon or the Hoover Dam.

If you go to Hoover Dam, make sure you ask to take the "Dam Tour." They'll laugh hysterically, since they're never heard that before.

Forgot to mention. No family, business trip. No entire free days, just a few hours each night. Already went to Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon.

Just go see a show or two then. If you like stand-up check out Brad Garrett's comedy club at MGM Grand.

Does the dam tour include NBE1 in the underground facility?

But seriously, aren't there some relatively new rides on top of the taller buildings that suspend you out in the air? If you're into thrill rides.

1. There are a few free shows [10best.com] still around.
2. As someone mentioned, any Cirque du Soleil show would be great, but keep in mind that tickets are expensive, and must reserve in advance.
3. There is areticket booths [tix4tonight.com] that sell tickets at half-price on the day of the show, but there won't be any Cirque du Soleil tickets there. In any case, don't buy tickets on the street!
4. Buffets are awesome in Vegas, and you can get a 50% discount sometimes via Groupon.
