Gift cards are directly deposited to your Microsoft account and expire in 90 days. You also cannot buy gift cards with gift cards.
I've posted this before, but I figure it's worth doing again since there seems to be some debate on the theoretical amount one can earn with minimal effort. If Badlands can actually finish soon, I'm thinking about cashing out $40 with this to add to my existing balance and get Forza Horizon 4.

I was one of those "I'm not going to spend my precious time doing empty searches for some dumb rewards scheme" people until a few months ago. I had the image in my head of having to type a bunch of different searches in a row to fulfill the requirement because I sure wasn't going to actually use Bing's search service over Google.

Turns out you can rack points pretty quickly with about five minutes of effort a day.

Open Edge and sign into your MS account.
Go to https://account.microsoft.com/rewards and bookmark it.
Finish the daily set (1 click for search, 2 clicks for poll, 4-6 clicks for quiz). 50-70 points every day, 15 point/day bonus if you chain together more than 3 days.
Click Points breakdown in the upper right.
In the breakdown, click PC Search. You'll be taken to the main news site. Click on all the sections (For You, Top Stories, etc.). Each counts as both a PC Search and an Edge search. Conveniently, doing almost all the headings will get you the daily 150 points with 15 clicks.
If you want the daily mobile search points, but don't want to install anything on your phone, install it on your tablet instead and sign into your MS account in the Bing app. Do one search on a popular topic (Donald Trump is an easy one, can be the same one every day) and click the News heading. Click on the various news sources above the article list; each one counts as a search without having to actually load any individual article or type anything else. 100 points a day on supposedly 20 clicks, but I feel like de-selecting providers still counts as a click, so it goes fast.
MS sends out bonus emails with 3-5 clickable links for 75-125 points about once a week.
The subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftRewards/) used to post a bunch of international links that could get you a lot of bonus points, but MS has apparently closed that loophole. But I still check just in case.
I work at a computer and do all this in about 5-8 minutes (depending on what's available that day) between other tasks. It nets me 320 points a day minimum, plus the streak bonuses. I don't mess with it at all on the weekends, so that puts me at 1,395/week. With the emails and other miscellaneous bonuses, let's average it out to a round 1,650 points a week for less than ten minutes of effort five days a week, or 85,800 points a year.

I cash out exclusively on 25% discounted Xbox gift cards (I get Gold super cheap through my MS rep at work), so that's $120 in Xbox credit a year. For a casual gamer willing to wait on deals for digital versions, that's 3-4 big titles a year, lots of indie games, or a couple splurges on brand new titles (RDR2, anyone?) for very little effort.

If you actually care enough to keep it going on the weekends, it ends up being about 122,000 points/year, or $150.
there are no codes anymore. gift card value is put directly into Microsoft account to spend.

hmmmm....Have 148k atm / 7k * $10 = around $211.xx so enough to redeem 21x $10 offer to get the $199 xb1s from Microsoft Store....interesting.... already have the 50% off $5 offer the other day too.... decisions decisions.... prolly will save for next gen...the $199 bundles don't look that interesting atm
I did that last year. It was kind of a pain, but ultimately worth it. They sent the first five, then froze my account because I was redeeming too much. Finally got them to unlock it (multiple CS reps), but by then they "ran out" of the sale cards and I had to buy them at the non-sale price. Still a pretty good deal. I think I got my kid an Xbox for $30-$40 out of pocket.

Anyway, if you do this plan ahead and allow plenty of time to order the "gift cards."

You can only buy these with Microsoft Points, so you can't buy them with cash and save 30%. You are saving 30% off the regular "purchase" price using free points you accumulate over time.

If you're buying a $1700 PC, yes. Put the $1000 in gift cards towards it and pay the remainder in cash. But dude...that's 100 $10 gift cards. You're going to spend half an hour typing in gift card codes.

You don't type them in anymore. The gift card amount is automatically applied to your MS account balance now.
