Gift card usually don't expire, at least not for year. Prepaid account does have $500 balance limit for at&t

Plus the balance is only valid for 90 days, then it expires unless you add another card to the balance, resetting the 90 day clock. So don't add too much to your balance at once.

I am not sure about this, I have added upto $500. As long as phone is active, it will deduct monthly charges each month and no expiry.
