https://fi.google.com/about/devic...tion-terms

Scroll down this page for terms. Device must be activated within 30 days to keep the discounted price , but can be cancelled anytime and kept. It's unlocked and will work with GSM or cdma.

Note for Google voice users: Create a throwaway Gmail account to sign up under if you want to keep your Google voice number! Otherwise they will want to Port it to this phone or deactivate your GV.

Google project Fi $20 off referral code to offset the cost of service. There is no activation fee.

Note: According to the fine print regarding the referral codes, you must have paid for two full months of Google Fi service in order to be credited the $20 referral bonus. This may be helpful if you intend to continue using Google Fi for 2 or more months.

For those of us looking to use this phone with another service provider, the cost will be at least $119 (plus tax).

If you want two or more phones, you CAN do this during checkout. Just add another person then select a phone for them (discount still applies). In addition, it is only $15 for the first month of service for additional people, reducing the total amount to achieve the deal.

Before you use a referral code from some random person, read this from Project FI FAQ [google.com]
You understand and agree that both the referring user and the referred user can see each other's names, contact information, and referral status, such as purchase and account activation status. The referring user and the referred user are only eligible to receive a referral credit if they both maintain active Project Fi accounts in good standing for which they pay a monthly fee. Group plan accounts are not eligible for this referral program. Referral credits may only be used for your Project Fi service, excluding taxes and regulatory fees, and are not transferable.

The discounted price will automatically apply during checkout, but if Fi is not activated within 30 days of device shipment, the discounted amount will be charged to your Google Payments account to match the full price of the device. Device must be activated within the same group plan that was used to purchase the device. There is no minimum activation time needed to be eligible for the discount. Activation must be for full service (e.g., activation does not apply to a data-only SIM).

The X4 is worth the extra 50 bucks over the G6. Better processor, IP68 and Android One updates.
Thank you OP. I grabbed one for my 8 year old to use as more like an ipod touch/camera/video camera. I do already use Project fi (have been for 3+ years). I did chat with customer support. I was told there is no set time this has to be active for. She told me not to add another line to my account, but rather, just buy the device, activate it, then turn right around and and go back to my pixel. She even spelled out the steps for me to do this. Here is my conversation for anyone interested.

08:44:53 Pravallika: There is no minimum activation time needed to be eligible for the discount.
08:45:34 Amy: ok, so if I add a line I could activate it for a day and then stop?
08:45:52 Amy: Also, would I get a phone number for the phone?
08:46:27 Pravallika: Rather than that I'd suggest you to activate the Moto G6 device under the same account and you may activate your Pixel device once after.
08:46:56 Pravallika: As there is no minimum activation time needed.
08:47:52 Pravallika: Let me explain in detail.
08:48:25 Pravallika: Once after receiving the Moto G6 device, please follow the below steps.
08:48:38 Pravallika: Turn on the device > Go through device set up process (make sure you use the same Google account to set up the device that is used for Fi sign up process) > Connect device to Wi-Fi > Download Fi app from Play Store > Login with your Google account credentials to activate the services.
08:49:19 Pravallika: You will see an option to move number in G6 device, please choose that and try a test call to verify the activation status.
08:49:32 Pravallika: If activation went successfully you would be able to place outbound calls.
08:50:12 Pravallika: Once after turn on the Pixel device > Clear the data of Fi app > open the app to complete the activation process and the Moto device on your account will be deactivated.
08:50:43 Pravallika: Upon completion of activation on Pixel device try a test call and that should work. It will not effect your device protection.
I've been a happy Fi customer going on 3 years, and haven't used an official Fi phone for over 2 years. I have 4 or 5 free data SIMs in various GSM phones and tablets, one of the great Fi perks.

Good deal. Can you 'activate' on an existing line (e.g. replace an old phone)

Can one cancel the project fi service immediately after getting the phone without paying any extra fees? Or do you have to pay at least one month of service before canceling? Is there some catch or can this really be a $100 phone deal?

Not sure if anything has changed since then...but I got on a deal way back for a $199 Nexus 5X. I activated the phone with the sim and canceled it a day later. Never charged me for the full price for the phone. Plus with Fi they refunded me the days I didn't use in about a couple of months.

G6 would be a great phone but for me the wifi only being N standard is such a dealbreaker. If it had wireless AC it would have been so much better.
Why?

You do a lot of file transfers?

It isn't really a catch, get the phone for $100 IF you activate a full service plan. So you'll have to pay at least one month. Which would be another $20 taxes not included.
