It was 1$ plus shipping before i think. It was 5$ at gamestop in store for a long time too.
I definately didnt use mine more than a few times. Even wired the fidelity was not acceptable for me. Id rather drag computer into the other room than use this.
Got one. Power adapter for 5v 2.5A is perfect for Raspberry PI. Also it has slim ethernet and HDMI cables. 10 bucks is a good price even without the box)
I thought I read an article a few weeks ago saying they stopped producing those things. I would fact check but if that's the case, not sure how long they'll support them

Seems like your experience is so different from the majority. Why do people make a big deal about these?

They are discontinuing the hardware and moving to the app. But their article says they will continue to support the hardware.
"
The supply of physical Steam Link hardware devices is sold out in Europe and almost sold out in the US.
Moving forward, Valve intends to continue supporting the existing Steam Link hardware as well as distribution of the software versions of Steam Link, available for many leading smart phones, tablets and televisions. Click here to find out more about the Steam Link App."
Samsung tvs got the steamlink app. Not sure if any other tvs does
Yeah, I tried using the app. and the experience wasn't too good. There was a lot of stuttering and buffering. And my samsung TV has a wired internet connection as well.
FYI: I had very different experiences with the steam link. I got it over a year ago from steam for about 2.50 plus shipping. At first it would play all but the most demanding games (like CoD). Then all of a sudden, I tinkered with setting to try and improve and I made it worse.
Recently I saw many youtube videos looking for a solution and one was helpful. (Don't remember which one or I would have linked it). Did what the video recommended: in client options to check AMD (if you have AMD graphics card) and uncheck NVIDIA and INTEL. (Depends on your graphics cards.) Check "Beautiful" as well and it went back to day one working great.
I then ran tests and Cod wasn't playable because it only was between 20-35 fps. I replaced r9 290 with Vega 64 and can now play Cod @1080p 60fps from the steam link.
So a mixture of graphics card hardware, having the steam link hardwired via ethernet, and selecting the right settings make the steam link like having a console or PC in the living room a very enjoyable experience.
Now to set up the second one I have and see if it'll be decent on wifi because I have no ethernet in my daughter's room.

I might get another one, but it would be on a TV with no hardwire, and I've heard iffy things about wireless streaming games to steamlink.
