My take on the kit:
  • 1) Nice 16 port NVR - appears to be similar to the Dahua OEM NVR5216-16-4KS2 w/o the IVS features
  • 2) These 4K IP Active Deterrence Cameras are new Dahua OEM cameras - we've had a discussion on these before. We have not seen any head to head reviews of the cameras compared the other Lorex or Dahua OEM cameras. So hard to know how well these compare to other camera models. I personally like the more traditional turret and bullet form factors more as they allow me to mount the cameras in a way which keeps the cable protected from cutting and UV exposure. Suspect that the newer 8MP cameras from Lorex may have a better imaging quality - this is only suspected based on what Lorex advertises, so until someone can do a side by side comparison I really do not know.
  • 3) Costco has a great return policy
  • 4) If you need audio recording ( remember to check your state's wiretap laws ), then the newer 8MP turrents ( Lorex calls them Domes ), the newest 8MP 30fps bullets, and the 2K mini-dome IP POE cameras from Lorex have microphones.
  • 5) If you need 2-way talkie and the other bells and whistles then this is the IP POE model that has those check list features.
  • 6) 4K IP Active Deterrence Cameras has a very wide FOV 128°- and thus a very short ID distance compared to 8MP cameras which have tighter FOVs.

FYI - WiFi version of this camera
