Search for it on Talkbass.com for a treasure trove of information. Overwhelmingly positive. I love my short scale Mustang. I swapped out the pickups for Bartolinis, but it was fine with the stock pus.

Its not exact, but Sweetwater seems to have one very similar (in an exclusive color.. but same starting 'list' price of $575): https://www.sweetwater.com/store/...ingerboard

Seems to be very highly rated for the Sweetwater model. I was looking at $300 Squire vintage modified PJ-equipped P-bass. This MIM (I assume) Mustang Fender SE at just $100 more is intriguing. Shorter 30" scale compared to the P-bass...

I bought this last time it was on sale and made a review video. It's a great bass for someone who doesn't mind the short scale. I love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLv3BfLZvog

I bought this exact bass from Adorama the last time it was on sale for the same price, and I was very impressed with the quality of the instrument that I received for the price. This thing does not feel cheap and feels great to play. Honestly the build quality/feel is very close to that of my mid 2000's American P-Bass, much better than other older from the MIM Fender instruments that I have owned late 90's/early 2000's.

I did end up changing out the pickups with a Seymour Duncan quarter pound set, and for my personal taste, was a huge improvement over the stock pickups. That being said, the stock pickups sound pretty good as is, and are definitely usable especially at this price point.

In my humble opinion, this Mexican made Mustang is of much higher quality than the Squire vintage modified, and at this price point, the decision on which to get is a no brainer. I own the MIM version, and have played the Squire VM in store (and also own another Squire VM guitar), and I believe the jump in quality to the MIM is well worth the extra $100... as long as you can get past the color laugh out loud

I agree that the MIM Standard instruments are are strong upgrades, especially at $100 difference. I have a surf green Tele, so surf pearl shouldn't bump me too badly *grin*. A friend bought a VM Strat and they've come a very long way (or at least stand out compared to an Affinity). Getting lucky with a 'good one' is probably part of it. I would get the VM from my local dealer and get some hands on time. Buying unseen, I'd have to look up SD'ers experience with Adorama's return policy in other guitar deals. My current bass is an old long scale Washburn, so I was looking at another long scale (Pbass), but perhaps the short scale would be a nice change. I just started this 'buy another bass' idea and haven't tried any out in person yet. Thanks for the feedback! Good luck out there!

Passive bass with probably a 3 way switch, P, J and 50/50 mixed. Hopefully the switch allows you isolate the J so you can get a true P sound. The J and fixed 50/50 won't be as useful. Then again those might be double knobs, if so...

I had a passive squier VM SS jag for a while. I liked it best with about 80/20 to 70/30 P to J after I did a magnet mod to boost the J. If I had have kept it I might have put in a switch to cut out the J as well. I personally much preferred the neck profile on the squier bronco I had rebuilt and sold (stupid me). Of course neither bass compares very well against my gretsch junior jet as a whole package.

Okay reviews seem to indicate that the switch is a weak point. An electronics job wouldn't hurt this, and IF someone liked the neck profile and playability it would tend to be a keeper bass.

One of these days I'll replace the 3 way switch with a blend pot. This is a killer bass. Short scale makes the fretboard really accessible.
