I have this. The docking feature is fairly nice, and allows easy swap of drives. When I first got this it was slow (<50MBps write), and I kinda of regret not returning it. Did a firmware update and speeds increased a bit (Above 50MBps), but decided to use other dock I had. Did another upgrade and it's fairly functional now (100MBps). All speeds with the same drive.
Damnit. I paid $22 for this a week or so ago.

Using it to use my old 3.5" drives as backups stored in my safe.
I just bought this, so I have no direct experience, but 99% of the external USB drives are enclosed. Most in plastic cases without cooling. I don't see how this would be much different. This would seem better as you can open the lid if you're doing big read\wires to it to help with cooling off you want.

Could someone with actual experience using this docking station comment on their experience? Thank you!

Thanks OP! Bought one and that would make it my third one. Have been using my other two without any issues for 1 to 2 years.

i don't understand why they include the cover..

I have two of these. Cheap and bulky but they do work well for the cost. I use them for offsite cold storage of drives. I never use the cover as even the green WD drives will cook an egg on long run times. On WD blacks I use a USB fan to keep them cool when moving TB of data.

Yea I'd second xtp's comment. I'd be worried about heat. I have a different model (Orico) and when the drive is being used heavily such as a backup, it gets pretty hot. Being enclosed without a fan is only going to risk burning out the drive.

Fwiw, I like my Orico. Picked it up from New Egg more than a year ago for $16.

These are fantastic to own. I have one like this. Same brand, different model. I also have one that is dual-bay. You can use them for a lot of things, such as cloning or moving files over to a different drive. Of course I like the dual bay better because you can clone drives without using a computer, but this is a good price for a single.

Sabrent makes some quality products! I ordered this same one 2-3 weeks ago when it was on sale for the same price. Been using alot lately to access some old 3.5 drives i had laying around, very happy with it!
