Another Cricket deal from Black Friday is back. Cricket currently have the iPhone 6s for $100 with non ATT port in and one month of service is required (cheapest plan is $30 with unlimited call/text, 2GB data). If you select the cheapest plan, the total will be $130 + cost for port in number if you need one.
The Cricket iPhone 6s may seems more expensive than the Tracfone or Boost iPhone 6s, but they are a lot easier to carrier unlock permanently. Many people were able to unlock them successful with ATT unlock according to the previous deal thread.

People are reporting that they were unable to unlock the phone with ATT portal. There is a possibility that ATT has closed the loophole so this unlock method may no longer work. My suggestion is to try ATT unlock a few times to see if you get lucky (note: each attempt can take 2-7 days from what I have seen). Occasionally, you can also get a denial message but the phone is still unlocked.
If the ATT unlock doesn't work, you can always try Ebay unlock (which unlock the phone permanently) or RSIM (temporarily unlock until you reset the phone). There is no harm in trying Ebay unlock since most sellers will refund you if they cannot get your phone unlocked.

Tips for those who needs to buy a number to port in:
You can search for Tmobile number for porting on Ebay. Then look for a listing that actually give you the phone number, account number, PIN. Don't buy the one that gives you ICCID only if you don't want to go through a lot of trouble to get a port in number.
I'll leave the above instructions to give a fair and balanced perspective, but it can be cheaper to create your own T-Mobile account with a digital ICCID. Select the $3 PayGo plan and give the zipcode 89126 as your primary place of use, and your total charge from T-Mobile will be $3.

Actually you make smart decision, I rather put $1000 every year toward my kid's college savings account than spend it on a high end iphone for him every 1-2 years.
still, I did this deal to get a new phone for my wife last winter and it seems fine. now looking for my son and seeing used iPhone 7s are around 200 bucks on eBay so seems not a bad choice for brand new. my son will complain why his friends have iPhone X but beggars can't be choosers

There's another set of discussions that seems to point that A9 chip inside iPhone SE, 6s, and 6s+ likely will be supported in iOS 13, and even iOS 14. And most likely will be dropped when iOS 15 comes out. This is due to the fact that iOS 12 still supports A7 chip, and traditionally, Apple only drop one class of device at a time.
If Apple keep this tradition up, that means only iPhone 5S with A7 will lose support on iOS 13. iPhone 6 and 6+ will lose support on iOS 14, and finally iPhone 6s, 6s+ and SE will lose support on iOS 15. Only thing that can change this tradition is the fact that Apple is seeing sluggish iPhone sale due to "revived" older phones (6(+), 6s(+), SE) when they offered $29 battery change AND iOS 12 performance upgrade.
SO, that might explain why they plan on axing THREE classes of devices (A7, A8, A9) in a single year! Although, when you think about it this way, it seems a little bit extreme for Apple to remove supports for THREE chips at the same time... personally, I feel that it makes a lot more sense for Apple to remove support of A7 and A8 on iOS 13.
My wife still has her iPhone 6 and despite the battery change and iOS 12, it's really showing its age in term of performance. Meanwhile, my iPhone SE with A9 chip is still working extremely well. This might also due to the fact that, per Apple's own words, A9 chip is 70% faster CPU speed than A8. A9 chip is also 90% faster for its GPU performance compared to A8.

I got him a Moto E4 as first phone. Best 40 bucks I ever spent. He literally cracked the screen the first day I gave it to him (note to self, give him a fat case the same day as the phone, don't order the case once you give him the phone)
