Here's a Youtube video that does a pretty good job simplifying. You can speed the video up to 1.5x and slow it down when needed.

I'm waiting for a price drop as more efficient and powerful panels hit the market. I didn't make the jump when both the CA and federal rebates were available. I believe only the federal rebate is available now.

I view this Coleman panel as more as a backup emergency power source for my smaller electronics and gadgets. Others seem to be happy linking two of these up on an RV for the road.

Was there a 30% federal tax credit on the $21k? My household electricity consumption is about $100/mo, or $1200/yr. If net cost of solar setup is $15k, my breakeven would be in 12.5 years. I think it'd be a different story if our bill was $200+.

I haven't had anyone come out to do a full assessment but it's been on my mind. Any thoughts?

That's before the tax credit and you dont need this many panels, making the cost even lower

So...I get this and a 12v battery... What would I need to then use the power in the battery? An inverter?

Here's one way to do it:

Solar Panel > Controller

Controller > Battery

Battery > Inverter

Inverter > Widget

Alternate setup with different controller:

Solar Panel > Controller

Controller > Battery
Controller > Inverter

Inverter > Widget

I got a quote. Gross cost $12k, Net cost after rebate $8k. Financed = approx $80/mo. Utility bill after solar setup = approx $3/mo.

Breakeven after 6.5 years, after which would be pure profit. 25 yr warranty. Panasonic 330s. 13 panels.

Wow, even with the low monthly utility bill I have, it may still make sense to go full solar...

Tempted to bite on this. I am comparing to another (expired) deal https://slickdeals.net/f/12815899-nature-power-100-watt-high-power-complete-solar-kit-98-home-depot?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1
It comes with 11 amp charger, nice connectors and could pick up ion store. Thinking weather I should wait for the HD one to go on sale again. Originally I wanted Renogy because of the reviews. I already have a deep cycle battery and inverter. This would be used for small scale emergency power back up.

Yelp msg multiple installers with the same specs, might find someone even cheaper! Good luck!
