southwest tickets more and more expensive nowadays
Is that really the case? I'm still flying to Seattle and Portland from Sacramento for around $79 each way. That's maybe $10 more than I paid a decade a go.
Flights to LA/San Diego are still dirt cheap, I see fares as low as $50 every month. I just booked a round trip flight to Midway for around $300.
Maybe it's just certain locations that have gotten more expensive, but I haven't been seeing it on the West Coast.
Can't reserve them either; no way to ensure they'd be available when you get there.
This isn't a deal; it's a doorbuster. Getting to the store and doing the transaction eats up most of the value of this deal already; having to take that chance kills it easily.

Those destinations are competitive markets (Alaska goes to all those, United to LAX, Delta and American to LAX).
Anyway, Southwest is still cheap if you book far out and if you factor in bag fees. If you are booking last minute, Southwest is inline with the other airlines. Sacramento Southwest is almost always the best choice, while the sac bee had published years ago that Southwest was 52% of flights, since they're all 737s, that's probably 70%+ of passengers.
Anyway, great deal, I'm gonna try and swing by Fry's today.

There are great deals but you have to be selective. We recently flew from Portland, OR to Orlando for under $100.

Definitely getting higher in the southeast. I fly out of Birmingham AL to Chicago frequently. Used to be able to book $99 one-way, but over the past two/three years it has gone up and now at $142 one-way when they have a sale.
Southwest in Houston used to be competitive. Now they're always double the price of flights I can find elsewhere.
Double the price? No way ...
I bought round trip Houston to Las Vegas for late April a few weeks ago for $102 round trip. Just checked, and the flight I am taking is still only $154. Show me where else I can get that flight for half of either of those prices.

About 80% of the US is a day's drive from the nearest Fry's, so I'ma say YMMV.
