I got the Netgear Orbi yesterday and found out that you cannot separate the 2.4 and the 5 band. They must have the same SSID and password! Thus, I can't control who connects to my 2.4 and to the 5 band. I see my stupid thermostat connected to my precious 5 GHz band! Unless, I'm missing something...
That's a big let down, and I might switch back to a triband nighthawk, where you can have three separated bands, each with their own SSID and password.

Looking to beef up dead zones in the house.
First, let me say that while I'm generally good with all things technology, I'm not an IT professional. I believe that I've read somewhere that Eero is the only true mesh system.
It ended up working fine after I found the right spots. Part of the issue may have been that my router was at one end of the house and the two satellites chained together to reach the other side. However, my Linksys Velop has no issues no matter where I place them.

I found the RBK53 (with two satellites) in store at my local Costco for $320. Pretty sure it was a YMMV, but worth a shot. I thought it was a pretty good deal.

I believe the AmpliFi Mesh Wi-Fi System. Gamer's Edition is a tri-band so I might look into it. The AmpliFi mesh points "satellites" seem to lack ethernet ports which is needed in my application.
The sale is over I missed that
