netgear's firmware is pretty good. I am using r7000, and there's firmware updates that it prompt you periodically.

If there's any sense to Netgear's numbering system, this has to be a pretty old router by now. I too am running a 7000 series and it's at least 3-4 years old. But ditto on the firmware updates. I get regular notifications from Netgear (not the actual router) and it's usually a simple matter of logging into my router and hitting the "Update Firmware" button.

I hope you are referring specifically to this router and not netgear in general. I have an r8000 x6s and the firmware has be an absolute nightmare. Sometime a year ago they did an update that made it so it would never stay online over 24 hours. After I finally I finally rolled back the firmware and it worked great for about 9 months. I tried updating the firmware again and the same 24 hour issue persisted so they still haven't fixed it after a full year. For some reason the wireless isn't working great anymore even on the old firware though its better than trying to use the any firmware released in the past 18 months. This is a $300 router and after 90 days netgear charge for support. Wish I had bought at Costco instead of fry's but basically I'll never buy another netgear of any kind.

I have this one and have had it for about 2 years now. The 5g network keeps disappearing completely and taking out all the devices on it. A reboot fixes it temporarily. Usually happens multiple times a day.

I've been very disappointed with it overall.
