    However, If you happen to need a motherboard too, then Microcenter is better as you get $30 off with a CPU/MB purchase. Wish there was one closer to me than 2 hrs.

    I agree with you, unfortunately I also have a 2hr drive to get there. As a side note if you don't need the games you can probably sell them on Reddit for $30 each.

    r/SteamGameSwap someone there also has a guide on how to sell the AMD games after the setup and account is made. a little bit of work but it's worth having the processor for ~$114.99.

    Good deal on good cpu. Personally I would get the 2600x over the 2600 just for the better cooler and out of the box better performance.

    So out of the box performance the 2600x is better than the 2600. But if you're planning on overclocking either chip you'll need a better cpu cooler than the wraith one, and in that case the 2600x has no advantages over the 2600.

    is there a reason to choose non-x over this? I seldom play games (ie witcher 3, skyrim, fallout4 so far..) and mainly photo/editing.

    I don't overclock either but the price difference of around $30 ..

    The wraith spire is well capable of handling overclock. My Ryzen 7 1700 is over clocked to 3.8GHz and that makes it a 120W TDP processor, the wraith spire handles well in stress tests.

    If that $30 is getting you a meaningful GPU upgrade, sure. Can't say for sure since we don't know what GPU you are running at the moment.

    Otherwise I say 2600x is great for anybody who doesn't want to mess around with settings. Most people don't anyway, as XFR 2 is great at boosting frequency and you won't get a tangible performance boost on most chips from manual overclocking by comparison. This extra performance boost does mean better productivity performance out of the box compared to non-x, which is a plus as well.
