Asus vivobook 14 inch 1080P 2 in 1 flip touch screen laptop (that's a damn mouthfull)

$299 pickup only at Microcenter.

essentially a newer processor than the Lenovo they were selling with the same specs that hit Frontpage a few weeks ago.

would have grabbed this had I not already grabbed the Lenovo a few weeks ago.

(to be technical the Lenovo would accept an active pen, otherwise the same specs)

I actually ordered one yesterday for pickup at $329. This makes it a sweeter deal.

My dad is picking it up today...I told him to make sure that he gets it for the $299 price.

Reviews are hard to find, (there are like multiple reviews, but they seem to be for other configurations) but I think that the only downsides I see are the 4GB and the small SSD. Both of these issues I believe are addressable fairly easily.

Before people say "it's only an i3", I agree, it's not gonna be a gaming laptop by any stretch. But I own the Walmart Omen with the i7-7700HQ and 1050ti, and this i3 while it only has half the cores of the i7-7700HQ, apparently on a per-thread basis, it's almost as fast:

I was looking for something more portable than the Omen for office type work...and this flipbook fits the bill. It's less than 3.5lb and it's ~13"x9"x0.7"

I'm excited, I can't wait to see it in action.

I wish we had Microcenter around here. I'm looking for a small, light, 2-in-1 that I can install Windows 7 on and use for automotive diagnostic utilities. I'm currently using a 10" Intel Atom tablet with 2GB of memory and 32GB of storage, so this thing would be a massive upgrade.

Yeah I live in NC, but my dad lives in NYC. He also happens to be flying in to visit tomorrow, so the timing kind of worked out.

I am looking for a laptop for my family which would be using it only for some excel work and most of the time on internet.. Will this be perfect fit for them ?..I do not want to go chromebook route though

I also see below laptop at fry's
Lenovo Ideapad 330 15.6" Laptop With AMD A6-9225 Processor, 8GB Memory, 1TB Hard Drive and Windows 10

it is coming out to be $50 more then the Asus one..any suggestions which one to buy ?..

In general, 15.6" laptops can cost less than 14" with similar specs. Having to cram all that technology into a smaller case runs the price of the 14" up. (or for the same price, you can get better specs in the 15.6").

The reason 14" often get attention on SD is for the more desirable smaller form factor.

The A6 CPU isn't all that great, but the 8GB of RAM is a plus, although for 25 bucks, you could upgrade the ASUS.

I like the 14" form factor and the light weight of the ASUS for portability, personally. The ideapad you linked to weighs almost 5 lbs

This looks like a very nice laptop for the price.
I'm TEMPTED to get one, but I must refrain as I have no use for a laptop at all...
Regardless, it's a nice laptop for general use. Repped.

Someone posted at the bottom of your review that he swapped the sata for an nvme drive.

Interesting.

I think what he's saying is that the m2 drive that comes with it is SATA, but it is an m2 slot that can accept NVME?

From what I'm reading, if the m2 slot accepts NVME then it can also support SATA, it will just run at SATA speeds. but not all m2 slots that accept SATA can accept NVME? Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?
