Seems the sale might be going till somewhere around 5/23-24. Minecraft sale page says merch is on sale till 5/24 but doesn't give a specific date for the game. Xbox and Win10 editions end date is around 5/23.
What's the difference between the PC(Java) and Windows 10 version?
Java Version: mod support, no marketplace (i.e. no in app purchases), can self host server for free
Java edition is the one sold on minecraft.net and runs on PC/MAC/Linux. AFAIK Java edition players can only play with other Java players.
Win 10: Better optimized/better performance, cross play with xbox/switch/mobile versions, must pay to host server.
Windows 10, xbox, switch, mobile all have their own compatible editions (called Bedrock edition). You have to purchase these individually for the platform you want to use, but they can play with each other. So someone with Win 10 can play online with someone with Xbox, etc.
Java Version no longer comes with free Win10 version, they must be purchased separately.
Great post for the Java Edition! Last sale I remember for Minecraft was when Notch got married in 2011?
Edit: FYI Just saw on Mojangs site that if you purchased the Java Edition before 10/9/2018 you can claim a free copy of the Windows Edition. https://help.mojang.com/customer/...minecraft-
I want the best Minecraft complete edition or sort. Is there such a one? I have Nintendo + PS4 standard edition but I need one that gives best bang for the buck in terms of dlc or add-ons. Anyone can comment what is out there? I know there is a master collection but not quite my price range at $40 sale.
Non-USA versions contain so much included extraneous dlc I'm still jealous.

I believe the windows 10 version isn't as up to date. At the least I think it can't have all the mods the Java version can. Think people say it's better optimized.

The main points from what I understand:

There's a lot of differences, W10 versions can crossplay with phones, xbox and switch, while java is PC only. Gamewise, they just work somewhat differently. For instance, shields exist in Java, while they're absent in W10. You can natively play with an xbox controller on W10, while Java is just mouse and keyboard.

Shields exist in the Win10 version which is now called the Bedrock edition. It's actually pretty close to the java version now as far as features.
