Just a few days when I did it several months ago.

Still no update to android 9 so will not be buying any more Motorola phones, been burned on false promises more than once.
I have this phone.
Please.
Please don't get it.
The lag is horrendous.
The difference between it and my G5 with 4 gigs is night and day.
3 gigs or the processor makes this thing a pain.
Agreed, Moto/Lenovo has become really poor with timely software & security updates in the past year or so.

I think you can activate it and cancel service one day later to keep the discount.

Does a Fi SIM card come with the G6 order or you have to order that separately?

It will come with a fi sim. It should be activated with the same Google account you ordered the phone with when it asks you to login.

Android Pie is a bad Android version. It introduces things like poor gesture control and make the time display on the left and other useless visual things, meanwhile locking useful things like Digital Goodness to Pixel phones. Oreo is good and Q is probably good too. This phone is stuck on Pie unlike the Moto G7. I'd not recommend it.

Security update is another story and that also isn't pretty. Around 18 months for G3, G4, 21 months for G5.

I've owned so many of the Moto G line of phones. I think one of them got updated one time. I finally moved on to buying used Samsung flagships on ebay. Currently using an S7 that is better than any of the Moto phones I had before.

My Moto X4 always got timely updates, just barely behind the Pixel line. It was an Android One variant, though, so maybe that's why. Or maybe things have changed.

Honestly, I liked my AO X4. It was vanilla Android with only a few added features and I liked almost all of them (they were certainly more useful than the stupid "squeeze" functionality). If Lenovorola would work on their camera processing to be on-par with Google, I'd gladly purchase another Moto device under the Android One program.
