This really isn't that complicated, you want to stack your combined service (Gold/Xbox Game Pass) up to a TOTAL of 35-36 months BEFORE UPGRADING. There's plenty of information in this thread, READ IT before you upgrade if you're confused!
There's also a big FAQ here: https://support.xbox.co
Q: When does this promotion end?
A: Unknown, speculative end date is the 17th but not confirmed. Also not confirmed if the current 1:1 conversion ratio will be normal going forward or if it will change. Reddit is suggesting it's running until June 30th: https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/...30th_2019/
This isn't a glitch, from the FAQ:
"As an Insider benefit, when you join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to give feedback, we will apply any prepaid time you have on Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass or both toward Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, up to a maximum of 36-months.
For example, if you have 3-months of Xbox Live Gold and 3-months of Xbox Game Pass already in your account and join Ultimate as an Insider, you will be charged $1 for your first month. For subsequent months, we will apply 6 months toward your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (up to a maximum of 36-months).
You can cancel your Ultimate membership at any time, and you will continue to have access to your Ultimate benefits until your prepaid time ends, at which point you will not be charged again. The upgrade of any prepaid time cannot be reverted back to Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass."

For those wanting to buy additional months of Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass, as an alternative to buying a 12 month card at a retailer, check your Microsoft Rewards.

You can buy both individual months and a 12 months of both Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass for Points. I bought 12 months of Xbox Live Gold for just under 30,000 points.
If you have the points, you can add a few additional months or a 12 month pass to combine with this deal. I used my rewards for an additional 12 months of live. Combining that with my existing months of Game Pass and Gold, I bought the $1 Ultimate Pass and now it will last until June 2022.
For those wanting to play Xbox Game Pass for PC, download the Xbox Game Pass for PC (beta) for Windows 10 app here: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-g...s/pc-games

Game Pass Ultimate also includes Game Pass PC. So 100 games are available on PC also using the Xbox Beta app from the Windows Store.

Try to find some cheap XBOX Live subs to maximize the deal BEFORE YOU BUY IT. Ultimate combines the amount of months you have left on Live + Game Pass.

My details:
XBLG: 3/15/2021 expiration
XBGP: 6/10/2020 expiration (redeemed two 6 month cards today)
After conversion:
XBGPU: 4/15/2022 expiration (they combined the full year to my XBL expiration date and then added the 1 month for the XBGPU 1 month offer)
As part of the subcription to XBGPU, I had to enable recurring billing.
I'm assuming this is because they don't have a prepaid option for XBGPU, as I was never forced to enable it for XBLG.
I cancelled recurring billing and I got the following notice (two separate pop up boxes warning me and confirming that my subscription is good until 4/15/2022
You'll lose access to your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription on April 15, 2022, when we don't charge again.
- Xbox Live good til 3/16/20
-Game Pass good til 11/16/19.
That means i have a total of 14 months right? Signing up for Ultimate would put me at 15 months. So, should I buy 2 years of Gold, putting me at 39 months and just eat the 3 months to maximize my Ultimate expiration date? Do I have the math right and would that be the best route?
Costco 2 years of live for $95 the best deal going right now?
I hope you are just trolling.
The ultimate game pass FAQ isn't loading for me anymore, but on the overview this is the line causing confusing.
"All conversions to Ultimate are final: Once converted, you cannot re-convert your Ultimate membership back to a previous membership. Maximum 36 months of redeemed Ultimate per account at a time, including any converted time from Xbox Live Gold and/or Xbox Game Pass (for PC or console)."
I talked to a rep on chat support and they said once it expires or is cancelled you can go back to using gold. All of your prepaid time is converted and will not convert back. And while the subscription is still active any codes redeemed will also be converted to match the ultimate game pass. So to go back to gold, from what I can tell, ultimate game pass needs to expire or be cancelled and then you can go back to regular gold.

damn it, I just did this. blah. oh well
- 1 month Gold = $10 MSRP = 2/3 of a month of Ultimate
- 3 months Gold = $25 MSRP = 1 month of Ultimate
- 6 months Gold = $40 MSRP = ??? months of Ultimate
- 12 months Gold = $60 MSRP = 4 months of Ultimate
- 24 months Gold = ??? MSRP = 8 months of Ultimate
This information is useful to those that mistakenly upgraded to Ultimate already, and potentially also for future deals on Gold/Game pass codes that could be used to top up Ultimate subscriptions (although it would seem the conversion rates will make this an inefficient route to go).Sign up for a Slickdeals account to remove this ad.
