Luke warm deal... The RAM is about 70 and a 500 GB SSD is right around 50 these days. Only upside is you only have one button to click.

This is really not a deal. You're paying 70 bucks for the ram and 50$ for a 500GB low mid tier SSD which is a normal price for both. Since it was brought to my attention Goldman Sachs bought SD I am very wary in regard to these "Front Page Slickdeals".

Why waste your m.2 slot of sata 3 when nvme price is so low these day.

This is an m.2. An SSD drive is always way cheaper than m.2. No comparison.

You have to be more specific. "middle of the road budget" could be anything from $500 to $2500 depending on your individual situation.
As far as the MB not supporting nvme, there are budget boards out there starting at $55 that do, like the Asrock A320M-HDV R4.0...
