If I may judge you a little bit based on your post (the fact that you brought a bike from 2017 and haven't ridden it, and is asking about it here on SD), I would say that it is absolutely not worth the extra money for you to upgrade.
It is so light. I was surprised how light it fell when I took it off their rack. A bike with Shimano EZ fire trigger, Shimano Acera front derailer & rear derailer for under $250? Solid deal. Other big name bike companies with Shimano Acera components cost way more. Felt comfortable on the seat and with the handles. Tires look nice and are going to be much faster than my mountain bike. I also took a look at the Nishiki Anasazi with the shock fork and thicker aggressive tire tread that leans more to trails but I prefer the Manitoba because it felt much lighter and will be faster with the smoother tire.
It has a 4.4 out of 5 star rating (88 reviews) on Dicks Sporting Goods Store website.
*I purchased the grey color and will pick it up later at my local store.

This is how I lock my bike most the of time.... With this Nishiki, everything is so easy to take off with the quick release wheels and seat. I also have a real thin seat cable but I don't use it.
Krytonite cable

What is good about the Krytonite cable loop is that it is 10mm thick and braided so it is more difficult to cut vs other cable loops. Plus there are times when I have nothing to connect my u-lock to so I use the large cable as the "main lock" but I only do this as last option and where I can see my bike like through a restaurant or store window.
After I bought it, I rode it around and noticed that I didn't have full range of gears like on my old Marlin mountain bike. My old Marlin bike could easily go through all the gears and not rub against the derailer. My Marlin bike had better quality Shimano components with Alivio rear derailer, Altus front derailer and Acera shifters but I figured that I should still be able to go through gears or high majority with exception of cross chaining. I called Dicks Sporting Goods and a technician would be available on Friday to service it. I spoke with employee who worked the bike department and he said the technician who also owns a bike store and rides like 40 miles per day will be here on Friday.... That is what I want to hear. I guess they hire outside source who is more knowledgeable and experienced for servicing. He fixed it and now my shifting works 100% perfect and I am loving my Nishiki. Here is a tip. Give a decent press with your left thumb and the shift will be much smoother. If you just give a little push and the button clicks over, it may grind a second before switching over. If you push it "longer over", it switches over much smoothly..... With my other bike with more expensive Shimano parts, it switches over easily with a light push but again.... That is why it costs lot more. Not a big deal to push a little bit longer to switch from 2nd to 3rd gear more easily. Give it a decent push with left thumb. No issues at all with pointer fingers or right thumb press. Light touch and it switches over smoothly.
I looked at some youtube Parktool adjusting the derailers and cables and there is no way would I even attempt to try to do this job. It seemed difficult to fine tune for a normal biker.
If you got this bike and have an issue, don't assume that these Shimano Acera parts are junk and the bike is junk. Just bring it back and have a TECHNICIAN service it. I can see lot of people don't bring it back and just ride with incorrect tuned shifting cables and then they blame Shimano or Dicks employee. The in-store employee will take a look but the technician is the one who will actually service it. It is free too as you just bought it. I am guessing the technician comes once a week.

Today I tried to use a Krytonite NY u-lock with the Nishiki seat tube and rear wheel to a post and I was unable to. I could only do seat post and then use the cable for both the wheels and helmet. I could use the Sheldon Brown method but I don't like the idea of u-lock touching my spokes.
