Most places you buy a new gas can from will be ~$20+ !!!
You have to keep an open mind for these (to see a good deal).
Do not buy if you need to use the built-in spout - that's what all the complaints are about.
Use these for temp storage of non-corrosive liquids (not just "gasoline").
If you are a vehicle dweller, can use for fresh water (or gray collection).
You can try a spout replacement - search for "EZ-Pour" spout replacement.
You can get a hand pump - search for
"Battery-Operated Liquid Transfer Pump" or "Fuel Transfer Pump for Gasoline"

I have the no spill brand can/spout and love it! Definitely recommend the upgrade as you suggest, as long as a long spout is not needed.
Unfortunately this deal is $12.35 near me in NJ.
I only use metal Eagle Safety cans now. My last one was from AWD for ~$20. It probably 4 yrs old now and still solid.

I've been using the same 14, 5 gallon cans (and one 6 gallon can) since 2014 (midwestern brand purchased at kmart and menards) to store gas from Kroger's fuel program, it get 90-100 degrees, never had one burst or leak yet. They do swell in the heat but that's it. I fill and empty them all about 2x per month but some may hold the same fuel for up to a month.
Ymmv, but that my real world experience.
As for the spouts, I use and recommend the shake siphon from amazon (Someone from fatwallet suggested it years ago) they do get brittle so plan on replacing them about once a year, I put the can on a step ladders paint shelf (so it's elevated above the fuel tank, give it two or three shakes and it's as fast as a gas pump.
Would estimate I've saved about $10k on fuel cost over that time (we drive a lot of miles). And the wife appreciates not having to pump gas since I usually just fill all the cars up right in the driveway. Strangely, no neighbor has ever asked why I do this of course most of them don't talk to me at all...

I get $1 off each gallon. Saves me $140 plus a month.
But you're limited to 35 gallons per fill up. Make sense?
The 360 view shows a yellow and black spout which looks similar to the red and black spout on my Midwest cans. The other image shows a black spout with a green collar. I'm happy with the Midwest spout so I'll try the yellow spout if available.

I bought a big metal jobsite box to store all of my gas tanks and did have it in the garage for some time. The jobsite box does have some rubber seals and for the most part it does cut down on the vapors but one of these days I will have to enhance the box seals.
However, I moved my lockable box outside for liability reasons and I suggest you do something similar if you don't want your insurance / rentor coming after you and wholly blaming you if your residence ever goes up in fire. Other kinds of boxes you might get are lockable deck boxes, military surplus metal transport boxes, or similar with some shade to keep the vapor loss / gas degradation down.

Sometimes, that's why I have 14 cans, I can roll into a month with a couple weeks of gas.
It used to be easier because you could buy variable load visas and liquidate them with bluebird etc. and still get the points but they ended that years ago. There are other ways but...
It's also nice in case prices spike (like Memorial Day or 4th of July) and you can ride it out till the price drops down. Least I ever paid was like 49 cents a gallon. They never did $2 off a gallon here anyway (Michigan)
I also use a card that gives me 15 cents back per gallon - granted it's in SYW rewards via gasbuddy but hey, if I didn't want to save I wouldn't be on SD.
