    Leaded crystal is stronger than glass, so it can be thin. It is also clearer and much more costly to make, that's why we pay more. Thin glass is just thin glass, and breaks easily. Riedel now has glass and stemware at all price points, but their reputation was once made on the high end hand-made stuff.

    FYI, the best value is the Riedel Restaurant line of machine-made crystal. It is supposed to be sold only to restaurants and hospitality venues. Emphasis on "supposed to be."

    Ordered 2 sets of the red wine glasses. BB has the decanter [ebay.com] for the same price on eBay but doesn't look like there is a store pickup option and it doesn't have free shipping.

    These are non-leaded crystal. 4/$20 isnt a bad price, but you're still probably paying a premium for the Riedel name when it's really just glass like any other glass. Theyre also probably not nearly as thin and elegant as the higher end Riedel lines.

    In my opinion thin is overrated. I have broken over 8 Riedel glasses because they are "thin". Thin != quality I guess.

    The rim is what sets aside cheap glasses from better quality ones. No visible rim requires a more costly process.
