First of all, you will need a CVS ExtraCare card. This is obtained easily at any store at the register. Some will ask you to fill out the form then and there, others will just give you the card and ask you to return the form later.
Once you have the card, you can now start CVSing
The biggest thing to understand is that CVS uses a promotional program called "ExtraCare Bucks" (commonly abbreviated as ECBs.) These print out on your receipt immediately once you purchase an item offering them; almost like an instant-rebate you get at the register. You can turn around and use them anytime on almost anything in the store, except for alcohol, cigarettes, and gift cards.
Often, CVS advertises items as "Free after ECB" – For example, throughout the month of November, CVS has Crest Pro Health Whitening Toothpaste in 4.2 oz size, for free after ECB. The cost is $3.49, but you get $3.49 back instantly on your receipt. The best part is that there are often coupons available that can actually help you earn money… like for the above toothpaste, there are $1 off coupons available, meaning the item would be $2.49, but you get $3.49 in ECBs back. The limit on this toothpaste for this month is 2. So if you wanted to start off small to get into CVSing, the thing to do would be to buy one toothpaste in the first transaction (and use a coupon if you have one, so that you either pay $3.49 or $2.49 in cash), then use the $3.49 ECBs you get back from that first transaction to pay for the second tube of toothpaste, and again, receive $3.49 more in ECBs.
The trick now is to roll your ECBs so that you rarely pay more than maybe a dollar or two in tax on transactions, instead using your ECBs from previous transactions… then earning more to keep doing the same. It's a cycle (and a game/addiction to some, lol.)

The good neighbors....they are an elderly couple that are probably in their 60's. I think he still goes to work some days. Just the sweetest people, love the kids. He goes out for a walk some mornings and when I take the kids to the bus stop we'll talk with him for a few minutes...he gets a real kick out of Christian and he gave Elizabeth a dollar once because he said he enjoyed her singing so much (She sings when she walks down our long driveway to our house...at the top of her lungs...so happy, lol).
Anyway, the other day he came walking down our driveway and knocks on our door. He had heard from the kids that my husband had lost his job. He and his wife brought us a $50 Kroger gift card. That was just so beyond sweet I just wanted to hug him and cry at how sweet it was.
