I don't get their marketing claims. You aren't going to get 300W off your cigarette lighter in the first place. Since "lighter" sockets never have lighters in them anymore they are usually fused at 10amps. Sometimes 15 amps if your are lucky.

That means if your are lucky you will get 120-180Watts of power out of your cigarette lighter before fuses blow. So have no clue why they are selling a 300W unit that doesn't have alligator clips on it and only plugs into a cigarette lighter as most anything over 150W needs to connect to the battery.

Also have no clue where they are getting their 700W peak output claim from. There is no way they could be pulling 50 amps through that small DC power cord and no cigarette lighter is rated for that anyway. I think they are getting a little bit liberal with their math.
Absolutely correct. Here is an example of a "real" 300W sine inverter:
https://www.amazon.com/Morningstar-SI-300-115-Morningstar-SI-300-115V-UL/dp/B007IAFN16/ref=pd_rhf_dp... [amazon.com]
It takes a fairly heavy cable connected directly to the 12V battery for auto use.
It's in the description that it's only 150watt through the cig plug.. Anything above 150watt needs an adapter with alligator clips.

700watt peak is too high of a claim.

For 360watt max rms, the peak is around 510watt.

The rms is the useable number. Peak is the number use to calculate the RMS value and company use it for marketing. Peak x .707 = RMS .

In this case, 300watt is the rated RMS means continuous output. 360watt is the spike draw. Therefore, the true peak value is 424watt.

Does not matter if it 700watt or 424watt peak. None of those number applies to you at the output. The most important number is 300watt.

Even that is false advertise. Like you mention, you cant draw more 150watt without an adapter, which is not included.

Reviews are pretty good for this unit. Does anyone have a good usage scenario for this? I like the idea of having 110v available in the car but have no idea what would be good use case.

I use it mainly for laptop and small electronics that normally don't have DC Car unit. Nice to have the option but not a everyday item.

Seems like a good solution for when AC power isn't available and the health of your electronic devices is worth more than $31 ....

Could be very useful at home during a power outage. Run an extension cord from this device in your car to inside your house. While it won't power your refrigerator, powering your modem/router would be nice. It'll even power a reasonably big LED TV. 600 watts might even be enough for some small microwave ovens.

This is why any decent one of these also comes with battery clamps (even the cheaper ones usually do).
