This is a really neat idea. Good on T-Mobile for offering this. I tried them before, but had to get service to test for a month. Coverage was poor so cancelled before month was up. Had to pay for service, but was happy to learn T-Mobile in my area kinda sucked. Now people can try for free. Good on you T-Mobile.
Found this.

You can sign up for T-Mobile Test Drive above — there is no need to visit a store. Then the T-Mobile Test Drive hotspot will be shipped to you for free and your trial will begin when you insert the SIM card into the hotspot device and activate it for the first time on the T-Mobile network.
Consider that I'm paying 115 for 9 lines all unlimited is an insane deal

Try contacting @TmobileHelp on Twitter via DMs. Tell them that, they may be able to fix it from their end.

EDIT: For anyone having issues (such as it saying you're a customer already when you aren't) check out this Reddit post specifically the "helpful comment" part. It has info and a number you can call to have them get you signed up on their end:

No info about how to return it after 30 days?

For anyone that isn't currently a T-Mobile subscriber, the test drive service is back and works with the new band 71.

You'll receive a hotspot device to use for 30 days (or up to 30GB of data whichever is first). No strings attached![/QUOTE]

Nope

Experience data, text, and Wi-Fi calling in your home or on the go when you test drive our network for 30 days or 30GB.
Limited time offer; subject to change; while supplies last. Non-T-Mobile customers only; 1 trial per user. Compatible Wi-fi device req'd. Data access for 30 days or 30GB, whichever is earlier; includes 200MB roaming. Your non-T-Mobile rate plan terms also apply. You may need to upgrade when you switch to get full coverage. Coverage not available in some areas. Not for international use. See Network Management Policies and Terms and Conditions (including arbitration provision) for additional information.

does the 30-day period start as soon as the hotspot arrives?

or is there a time limit before I have to activate and start the 30-day trial?

the reason I"m asking is that I want to try this at home as well as the places that I'm visiting in Upstate New York during the first week of October.

Thanks!

I have no idea. I would imagine it would begin when you receive the device though.

EDIT: Just saw the comment above mine, please disregard. Apparently it begins when the sim is inserted.

Have you had a T-Mobile account in the past using that email address? Try using a different one.
