Kills this?

I love Yamaha, but the 2085 lacks HDMI 2.1 (it only implements eARC), its room correction is strictly worse, it has one fewer HDMI input, it isn't expandable to 11.2 via a separate amp, and is 1" taller and 5" deeper.

The Yamaha may be the better choice for some people, but it in no way "kills this", and you're missing out on HDMI 2.1 support and other features.

Nothing extreme that I can see; more channels and some newer features like Atmos height virtualization, newer bluetooth version, and "IMAX Enhanced" though I'm not sure what that is to be honest Smilie

This updated version can re-asign your 2 front channel making this capable of running 11.2 channel. But i think the draw back for me is that this receiver can only do 100watts/per channel. It's still a good price considering its was just release.

Yeah, but eArc, which the last years version of this unit supports too, largely eliminates the need to run video through the receiver at all. Instead you can run video direct to the display, and have it send full lossless HD audio back to the receiver.

Had no idea that existed! I never understood the point of running video at increasingly higher rates through what is fundamentally a low datarate audio box.

lol at "drawback can only do 100watts/per channel"...If you think you are getting 100 watts PER channel out of this thing you need to go back to EE school..

Agreed....which is why I run any video source I can directly to the display and a separate line for audio

LOL..true
But it might hit 100 watts with 1 channel driven with the most efficient speakers on the market
But hey...its 9.2 at this price point...you need to have the right expectations...

Yamaha RX-V2085 still kills this and is $100 cheaper now.

There is a reason why that was front page
If that is indeed a clone of the Yamaha A2080 then it is truly a slick deal

I was VERY tempted to pick it up...except for the Pioneer LX701 I picked up at Fry's for $550

Past my return period but still considering selling the Pioneer and picking up this Yamaha

Has Denon improved their OSD since the x3300h? it's so clunky/blocky. Picky, I know... but I've convinced myself not to upgrade until i can get a better, more responsive OSD.

Power Output (8 ohm, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08% 2ch Drive)105 W

Per the manufacturer, it can do 105w per channel, 2 channel driven @8ohm. If you're driving two efficient towers only, you should be able to pull close to 100w.

Doubtful
The last one I saw was from the X3500 and it was basically the same as my 3 year old Denon X7200
