I have a 6 quart Duo as well as a 6-quart Ultra. I do not have an 8-quart yet but my understanding from other reviews is that it takes longer to heat up which is a negative in my book. I have a small bit of concern that one day I might want something larger but so far that hasn't happened. I have cooked a 5 lb chicken in my 6 quart without any problem.
My opinion is that unless you know for sure that you need the larger capacity a 6 quart will be much more pleasurable to use day in and day out.
Also, I much prefer the ultra over the duo simply because the pressure relief valve resets itself automatically each time the lid is removed. This is not a big deal until you forget to reset the pressure relief valve
Èdit: also I think there may be more 6 quart accessories available.

Other than it being huge, is there any detriment to getting a larger cooker than I need just for the extra capacity for those times it might be necessary?

Not that I've experienced. I cook all sized batches and things in my 8qt.

Got extra $5 Kohl's cash for in store pickup.

Anyone know if the higher models are worth it over the duo?

DUO is really the best model out there. The others just got novelty things that if you read the DUO can do. I just did the text code and it worked. This is an upgrade to my LUX!

Agree... 8qt can handle smaller batch. But 4qt cannot handle any larger batch. Can make multiple batch though.

It's up to the individual to evaluate their needs and make the purchase accordingly.

Like you buy a small car or buy a truck or van. And the alternative of course is to buy the small car and rent truck/van when you need it. Similar thing can be done with pressure cooking, can borrow it from your relative that have the 8qt.

Peace

Most recipes are for 6qt, pressure is a bit weird, so you need to factor in the difference in time coming to pressure as that is also cooking time, Once you get that down, it shouldn't be a problem. I have both the 6 and 8 qt.

Depends on how you feel about Kohl's cash. I used my red card to get the deal at Target and saved $3.00. This deal is 50 cents less, so it is an instant savings of $2.75 ($2.50 + .25 lower tax) vs. $10 of Kohl's cash
