Is this cheap for a pool? I will need to drain and refill this winter and I know I need a bunch of this but don't remember how much it costs at pool stores

Do people use this in a laundry or is it just to keep it in a jar in the refrigerator?
I haven't seen much difference in washing when using it in laundry, but I haven't paid too much attention to it either to critically evaluate.
