Be cautious for those thinking getting the Elite will make things a whole lot better than the regular versions.

The elite boasts POE so no more worrying about connectivity issue using wireless and also will power the unit at the same time.

But thats where it stops. Most may think it should be superior because now that its wired it has better latency and more bandwith etc.

NOPE.

The video quality still looks like a cloud based system because that what Ring will always be about because that is their business model and how they make money on the subscription costs. Why would they take advantage of having POE by giving you higher quality footage and local storage, because then they cant profit.

It will also be very rare for MOST people to have cat wiring right in their doorbell location unless they did it while the house was being built. It also will not be worth it to run it discretely (which is doubtful one can do without making holes and repairing ) all to run the ring Elite.

If you are going to go through the trouble to run cat-5e/cat6 wiring in the front door area, SCREW RING, and get yourself a TRUE POE camera that records 247 to an NVR.

Thanks, OP. In for one. Been waiting for a deal on an elite, and the 1 yr warranty makes me feel a little better. I'm anticipating any glaring refurb-related issues would pop-up within the first year.

Thanks. In for an elite. I've been waiting a long time for a sale and this is the best yet. Decent warranty as well. Hopefully lasts a few years until, or hopefully, ubiquiti releases a poe doorbell.

Like most, been waiting for the Elite to come down as well. Anyone know if the angle mounts, similar to the Pro, are included?

were you waiting on the elite because you think it will be much more superior than the other models since its wired? its not, and its disappointing. and you have to make a huge gaping hole for such a weak product. as it uses 1 gang hole. If it was actually a superior device sure, but it already seems DOE. Id wait or get a better POE doorbell cam that actually takes advantage of being POE with better camera hardware, and local storage. Ring's business model is cloud and thats how they make money on the subscription. There is no way they take advantage of what POE can do because it will take away from their model.

It's new construction so I'm not worried about installation. Fully aware of no local storage and some of the doorbells drawbacks. Unfortunately I just don't think there is a better option out there for a smart doorbell that's poe. I'm crossing my fingers ubiquiti announces one soon so I can replace. This doorbell will be temporary until there is a better option. All the other cameras are going to be ubiquiti.

Yeah, so... I already have a Cat6 cable wired to my doorbell's location. I have the Pro now, and it works well. There's a bit of lag from when I click on a notification/open the app.

You're saying the Elite doesn't remedy this? I also noticed that you have to make a large cutout for installation.

Been also considering DoorBird, but it's lacking video quality. Would be stoked if Ubiquiti came out with a PoE doorbell.

i know there are POE cams out there, you have to check that one forum ipcamtalk

thats good its new construction, but the way Ring's business model is, its unlikely they will ever utilize the power of being a poe setup. and its a big commitment to make a big 1 gang hole up in front which youll have to deal with when something better comes a long. you or others may say its not a big deal you get a plate etc etc, but thats still dealing wtih the big hole thats youll have to open up.

if i were you, still put the cat wiring in doorbell height, but for now just use a standard cloud based doorbell that is simple mounting, and run the poe wiring elesewhere around the entrance to run a true POE camera. thats what i would do if i had that advantage of prewiring new construction.

Concrete block construction which is very easy to make the hole smaller. There are features I would have to give up if I went with an IP cam. This doorbell will serve it's purpose especially since I have another poe camera that catches the front door as well that will be local storage.
