How to Get the Most Out of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscription

Microsoft.com [Xbox News/Info] is offering their Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscription currently at $1 valid for New Subscribers. Microsoft is allowing those who upgrade to the new Ultimate Game Pass Membership to convert all of their Xbox Live Gold/Game Pass time (up to 36 months) to the new Ultimate Membership to a 1:1 conversation rate. To get the most out of your Subscription, please follow the steps listed below. Thanks cbfannin & other contributing SD members

Note, this will not work if you have already upgraded to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscription previously.
  1. Click this link here to locate your main Microsoft Account page
  2. Locate the "Services and Subscriptions" tab at the top of the page — this will showcase which subscriptions you currently have on your account.
  3. Before applying the "One month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $1 promotion" deal to your account, extend your Xbox Live Gold subscription at your discretion (by buying additional months; up to 36 months allowed)
    • Note, you do not have to extend your subscription but to get the most out of this deal, we would suggest you do that, otherwise, any left over active membership will be converted when you proceed on.
  4. You can get 12 months of Live Gold for $59.99 or go a la carte for $9.99 per month or you can purchase a subscription elsewhere (B&M/online store)
  5. Now, once you've extended your Xbox Live Gold subscription to the desired length, it's finally time to add the "One month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $1" deal to your account.
  6. Once that deal is applied to your account, your current Xbox Live Gold subscription will be converted to Game Pass Ultimate and will be available for the length of your Live Gold subscription.

Microsoft is allowing those who upgrade to the new Ultimate Game Pass membership for $1 to convert all of their Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass time (up to 36 months) to the Ultimate membership at a 1:1 conversion rate. (see photo) This will not be the case AFTER you upgrade to Ultimate. You can see post upgrade conversion rates here: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass#faq [xbox.com]

Ultimate Game Pass combines PC Game Pass, Console Game Pass, and XBOX Live Gold. If you are not a PC gamer, this will still come out to be cheaper than not upgrading to Ultimate.

Disclaimer. Microsoft has not announced when they will stop doing this so I would take advantage of it ASAP.
  1. Start at your main Microsoft account page [microsoft.com].
  2. Go to the "Services and Subscriptions" tab at the top of the page — this will show which subscriptions you currently have on your account. If you're current subscriptions are on auto renew, turn auto renew off before you proceed.
  3. Before applying the "one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $1" deal to your account, extend your Xbox Live Gold subscription by buying additional months. You can top up at sites like cdkeys.com for a discount or if you have a Costco membership (This is where I got my 24mo card).
  4. Now, once you've extended your Xbox Live Gold subscription to the desired length, it's finally time to add the "one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $1" deal.
  5. Once that deal is applied to your account, your Xbox Live Gold subscription will be converted to Game Pass Ultimate — and Game Pass Ultimate will be available for the length of your Live Gold subscription.
  6. If you are prompted to enable auto renew, do it, you will be given another additional month for free each time you do this. Just be sure to turn it off after each case.

Your exact numbers will vary. It depends on what you were paying and how many months you had prior to the upgrade and what you pay to extend your XBOX Live Gold. But here is what I ended up with. I received 34mos of Ultimate Game Pass for $4.42/mo. I had 2 months that converted, purchased 30 months for $135.77 from discount sites, received 1 month for enabling auto renew, and got the 1 that came with the upgrade for $1. I probably could have squeezed an additonal free month out of the upgrade but I think I forgot to disable auto renew after I submitted my Xbox Live Gold cards Frown Anyway, that is ~70% savings off the Ultimate membership, and ~48% off of what I was paying for Live Gold and Game Pass memberships separately using discount sites. For me, those together averaged $9.16/mo. My $4.42/mo cost also includes a couple months I lost from the Game Pass since only Live Gold or Game Pass is used for the conversion, not both.

They offered this upfront for a while. No one I told believed me. I stocked up. A lot of slicksters got it too. If the dollar upgrade converts then it will be up for 2 weeks as per usual with deals I'm sure.

One thing I did the first time this came around was to get multiple 3-month codes and add them one at a time to my MS account. You then edit the subscription and set to auto-renew, which adds 1 month free to the expiration. Then go turn it off, add the next 3 month, lather/rinse/repeat. If you're adding a year like that you get 4 months free.

Do all these then do the conversion to Game Pass Ultimate for a super deal overall.

Whatever time you have loaded up to game pass or gold before buying this 1$ promo will convert when you buy the ultimate promo. If you have a month you get a month. No tacksie backsies. If you have the cash to load up 3 years of gold or gamepass or already have a bit of time to wait for more deals? 1$ converts and adds a month

Yeah I probably could have optimized mine a bit more in the example I provided. I just decided to purchase the max amount of time I could within 36mos for as cheap as I could find it. I was only off by a couple months and don't think I could have gotten any 1mo cards. Those are normally for new subscribers. I suppose I could have gotten a 3mo one for relatively cheap...oh well.

Lol yah. I lucked out. I had been buying gift cards on sale and buying cheap indie games for a couple of years. Ended up having enough loaded up to extend my gold 6 months to 2 yrs 7 months then did the deal. Bam. With the streaming service they probably just want everyone on their platform buying vbucks and star dollars etc etc

That is a great idea. Did you calculate your 3mo membership purchases compared to buying longer duration codes? I assume it still paid off, but this is excellent. I will keep this in mind. Essentially when you go hunting for a 3mo code, just calculate the cost as if it were for a 4mo code!
