Looks good for a first timer! Thoughts vs. 745? Was reading rail system on 745 is better and lighter overall but motor is better on 7480 however it's heavier.

Rail system looks identical to me 745. The 7480 looks to be higher rpm though.

Fence itself is the same but higher rpms. Another important difference is the 745 max fence distance is 20" vs the 7480 goes all the way out to 24.5". That way you can get the middle of 4x8 plywood sheets.

7480 has much greater rip capacity, 24.5" vs something much less on the 745, that's the biggest difference to me, I've used both extensively

How's this compare to this guy? DWE7491RS [amazon.com]

Obviously no rolling stand, and lesser rip, but how much rip capability does your average hobbiest woodworker/DIYer tend to need?

I'm new to the tablesaw world, and I bought one from Craiglist, but it's a monster vintage Craftsmen that's iron, heavy, and unwieldy. I have to no shop, so it lives outside, needs to be restored, and I'm worried the elements won't be good for it anyway.

So my goal was to get a light portable one instead. I have a workbench, so I don't need a rolling stand anyway, but I don't want to gimp myself on rip capability if it's something I'll regret. Any thoughts?

I'm a DIYer. Picked up the 745 a couple months ago for around $245 (something like that) on a slickdeal. I've been very happy so far. Meets all my DIYer needs (I do have miter and circ saw to complement). Being able to rip a full sheet of plywood in half with this one (745 lil too short) is nice and if I hadn't bought the 745 already I could see myself spending the extra $50 over what I paid for the 745 to get this one just to have that option. But by now I've got a good setup for ripping full sheets with my circ saw, plus it's not something I do often anyway so overall I'm not regretting getting the 745 at all.

I have both 7491 and 7480. 7491 is in higher league. On their standard stands, 7491 is higher. 7491 also has bigger table. Most importantly, 7491 is more powerful and supports dado blades.

I have the 7491 and have ran out of rip capacity if that tells you anything. I only use it a few times per year. I wouldn't go with anything less.

I was at Lowe's the other day looking these over side by side with the 745. I definitely liked this one better, but didn't like the price difference . I ordered one early this morning from Amazon as soon as I saw that it had been discounted.. I think its a great deal... Really will be perfect in my very small shop.. I have found that you cannot really go wrong with Dewalt...

Hm debating if I should purchase this or wait until Black Friday.... Any thoughts? I was hoping the Lowes and Home Depot adds would be out soon.
