Always need to consider the transfer fee for balances transfers, and should be included in this post.

"There is a balance transfer fee of either $5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater."
EDIT FROM MAY 2021-- THIS POST IS TWO YEARS OLD. THE CARD IT MENTIONS IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO BE OPENED.

PLEASE STOP REPLYING TO A TWO YEAR OLD POST WONDERING WHY YOU CAN NOT FIND THIS SPECIFIC CARD/DEAL ANYMORE.

(above added after like the 6th person in a year necroed this discussion to reply to this post- original post from 2019 below)

Chase Slate is only 15 months but 0% balance transfer fee.

The slate itself sucks as a card to actually use for anything other than the BT, but if you're mainly concerned about the BT, and the 3 extra months won't kill you, it saves you 3% of however much you're transferring over this... plus once you're done with the BT you can product change it into a genuinely useful card like a Freedom or something.
After years of being on airline miles cards I switched to this card. I am very happy with it. Airline miles are worth an average of 1.3 cents per dollar spent these days. This card is worth 2 cents per dollar to me as a shopper. It takes VERY little effort to redeem the 2% cash back. I enjoy the value and simplicity of this card. I find the citi web site and mobile app to be stronger than alternative bank sites and apps. I don't have the time or desire to manage multiple cards.

Is the Virtual card feature expected to stay, or have they said they're getting rid of it?
I might get it just for this feature, used to have BofA.

If the VAN is on the chopping block, I might not apply.
There was never an official announcement that it was going away. Just speculation due to the tool that was used to generate the VAN was Flash-based, and Flash was going away at the end of this year. Also, I believe that one person posted that a customer service rep. said it was going away (but was not confirmed by any other reps or posts).

However, they recently replaced their Flash-based tool with an HTML5 one, so it is no longer dependent on Flash. It seems highly unlikely that they would get rid of VAN if they spent the money to develop a new tool.

So, considering that they never announced that it was going away, and that they recently created a new tool to generate VANs, I would say there is no reason to believe that it is going away any time soon.

Thanks for the clarification.

In the whole CC world, right now what are the cards that have VAN feature?

Interestingly, I have Costco Citi and AA Citi and neither have VAN.

I really don't know. I know more used to have them, but got rid of them. I found this [wallethub.com] article, but I don't know anything about them.

There are also services that offer this type of thing, only it's not a credit card, you link your bank account to it, so more of a debt card.

Something hinky is going on with credit cards right now.

I have two backup cards that keep my FICO high since my monthly balance is a small part of my limit.

Bank of America insisted that I spend on one of them to keep open [no problem].

USAA just closed one without warning [asses].

Things that make you wonder.. why the crackdown on credit balances?

Can someone tell me the differences between buying and paying? It says 1% each for total 2%?

When you charge something to your account, you earn 1%. Then when you pay off your credit card, you get another 1% on the amount you pay (as long as you pay the minimum amount due). So if you charge $1000 to your account and then when the CC bill comes you pay off $500 of it, you would get:

$1000 x 1% = $10
$500 x 1% = $5

So you would earn $15 cash back for those two events. If you then pay off the remaining $500 the next cycle, you get another $5. I doubt you would get any cash back for any interest you pay on your card, so if you had interest on that $500, say $10, and you payed off the entire balance of $510, you would still only get cash back on the $500, not $510.

That sucks that USAA did that. Were you actively using it? I actually like USAA because when I asked for a CL increase, they bumped me to 20k. I have a couple of active cards, but I do have a few inactive ones.. I try to use them at least once every few months and then pay them off. I do that to hopefully keep them out of "idle" credit card state.

I think the banking entities know better than us.. last time around, this happened with the 2008 crash. They started closing my cards and lowering my limits. At least in general, there is more speculation about 2021 and where we are heading. At some point, the protections from evictions, etc will end at some point. Right now, the stock market is doing great, housing prices are high, etc. We all know that will end "at some point". The trick is putting yourself in the correct position before these things hit.. and they usually hit all of a sudden.. then it becomes hindsight.

I stopped using the DC card for purchases because they axed the extended warranty. I keep it for recurring bills but use Fidelity's 2% card since it's a Visa Signature with EW.

This has always confused me on balance transfer offers. "If you transfer a balance, interest will be charged on your purchases until you pay off your entire balance (including balance transfers) by the due date each month."

What exactly do I have to do to avoid paying interest? I'm assuming that parenthetical "including balance transfers" doesn't include the original balance transfer that is supposed to be at 0% for 18 months?

After having this card 12 months Citibank revoked on their 18 month 0% agreement then lowered my original credit limit from $12,500 to $7,500
I used the card for a $5.000 transfer, all payments were made on time and 3x the minimum limit amount.
