This really should not be called unlimited. I tried Kindle unlimited for free for a month when it first came out and cancelled early because no books I was looking for were included. I would check what is included before you buy.
I actually use Kindle Unlimited for a ton of audiobooks. Usually they are either "listen for free" which means them come with the kindle unlimited book, or they are really cheap to add-on the audiobook ($1.99 is usually the price I pay for these audiobooks).
I keep an Amazon shopping list for Kindle Unlimited titles that catch my eye. Then when Amazon has these Kindle Unlimited membership deals, I grab it, borrow the Kindle Unlimited books, and buy the add-on audiobook.
Whenever you buy an Audible audiobook with cash or Audible's credit system, you keep that title, no matter if you have an Audible membership or not, it stays yours and is attached to your Amazon account (even if your Amazon account is Prime, or is not Prime). The only caveat is these are digital purchases, so you own them as much as you own online video games: you buy the access, so download your audiobooks in order to keep them forever.
If have further questions about Audible books through Kindle Unlimited, go to the subreddit specifically for Audible and post a link with any book in question. That group should help you get answers, when you get that annoying customer service bounce.

Exactly. Its like netflix -- if they have a license for it with the publisher you can read it.
And surprise surprise most of the books people want aren't part of the "unlimited" package.
I would recommend people check out the audiobook selection at their local library. In a big/mid-size city it can be pretty amazing.
You can get access with your library card and then inputting it into one of the following apps:
This definitely seems suspicious - Amazon is pretty good about making the discount LARGER for longer periods. If these stack, then they have messed up and are penalizing you for longer subscriptions.
I find I can get by with the free or very cheap 2/3 month subscriptions myself. Wonder if they'll offer free ku with kindle purchases this holiday season.

I tried it for the audiobooks and some of the audiobooks amazon shows is included in the program simply aren't. If you contact Amazon support about it they direct you to Audible support and then back to Amazon support..

" Amazon will email the recipient with redemption instructions on the day you choose. Recipients can immediately start their Kindle Unlimited membership or exchange it for an Amazon Gift Card."
Sounds like if you buy this but later decide you don't want to start the subscription, you can still convert it into an amazon GC

This. ^
But.....ssshhhh. I wouldn't want Amazon to change this.
Is it possible to purchase multiple 6 month codes?
Looks like so, you should be able to place another order and send it to a different email address of your own, and later use the code whenever you wish to restart subscription
