For the SD card slot, can someone check if a SD card would go all the way in when fully inserted? Or does it stick out from the laptop halfway when fully inserted?

What did you think of the 14w? I bought one and not overly impressed ..but it's only $130. 14w had a decent stereo speakers though.
Bought my son this 14" HP last year.It has absolutely beautiful screen.
So I'm getting this HP for me also.
I actually think the 14w has better build quality. It's also fanless so completely silent unlike the HP which has the fans always running. I'll probably keep the 14w as well since it's so cheap.

lol, i stuck some paper under the touch pad while i had it taken apart. By the way thanks for the detailed pictures.

I never had a computer with a clickable touchpad before... my last laptop Dell E1705 (core2duo gen) had a sort of touchpad-like mouse but it was never a problem (not multi-touch kind).

I was a little startled yesterday with the bottom of touchpad moving down "clicking" last night, but when I looked at this morning more closely with daylight, it seems it is just suppose to move maybe 1-1.5mm down on the bottom half if you press down (it is suppose to be clickable), and maybe it is not the best touchpad in the world, but I don't really think it is a deal breaker. The top of the touchbar seemed secure and there are no rattling.

If I want to be super picky about this laptop, I would say I am slightly less happy with the keyboard's slipperiness and the relatively less key press travel, but I am spoiled with laptop like the Thinkpad T52, T400 and to lesser extend the 2008 Gen Dells where the key are more "formed" like a cup for your finger. But, I think I am really super happy for the value of this laptop, and really can't find anything to complain about this deal.

To the someone who asked about costco online order, my order did show "i3" on the web page and also on the confirmation page, but I did get the i5. There was nothing outside on the box saying it's an i5, you'd only find out by powering it up and checking from windows 10.

What do people think of the fan noise? Mine is constantly on, even though the fan constant on option on the BIOS is disabled.

I was literally just about to post this. Is there a solution? Mine is disabled as well but is constantly on, and pretty loud. Otherwise the laptop works well.

The CPU mark of 9195 on the cpubenchmark.net website is mine from this HP.

The weird part about the trackpad is if the laptop is flat I don't get the noise with the clicking on the trackpad, but if I have it at an angle I do get the noise. The cursor does not move when I hover over the trackpad like the 2018 model did.

After upgrading my laptop Thursday evening, the WiFi was working properly but when I turned the laptop on the following morning, the WiFi card was not found. When I reinstalled the driver (had to download from different laptop) it showed up but was turned off. After I restarted the system everything worked again and have had no issues since.

The Ram module is the exact same part number as the 2018 model.

Mine has all the updates, and the fan hasn't ran at all in the time it took me to make my previous post.

Here was something I noted yesterday that may help you...

When I powered it up for the first time, since I wasn't sure if the laptop had an i3 or i5, I deliberately tried to minimize putting in personal information in (for HP registration etc) and I didn't want the Windows 10 to do update before I had a chance to check it.

so I told the laptop I was "without internet" and didn't give it any information so it could not phone-home. and, after finally giving the minimum info needed the PC started up and I started to look for task manager etc.

Then, since the PC is not doing anything, it was quiet, then all of sudden, fans goes full tilt, so I look around to see what's doing it, and it was the HP bloatware -- there are like 4 or 5 of those (the HP registration/privacy one).. you'll know what I'm talking about, once I specifically killed it, the pc was quiet as a mouse. Also, check the start-up and go uncheck the HP stuff from running again, I think that will help a lot.

Before I did my windows 10 update, I also went and un-installed the bloatware / Mcafee etc that I was not going to use (was just going to use windows defender/security essential etc).

It did go full tilt when it was updating windows 10, but that was expected. I think when I was watching the process, it was turboing all the way up to 3.5GHz (I don't think I saw max of 3.7GHz, but I didn't look all that carefully until midway, and the CPU probably was already warm).

After it is all done, it is all quiet again.

Costco Price Adjustment:
If you bought this laptop at $400 before it went on sale today for $280, Costco won't do a price adjustment for you because this sale is part of their holiday promo book and those items are limited to availability. So you'll have to buy a new one at the lower price and do a return with the previous $400 receipt. You can actually return the new unopened one you just bought using the old receipt.
Great post, thanks for all of the good information.

I'm not sure you can return a laptop as you stated. I believe most retailers tie the serial number to the receipt.

Based on Costco's setup it would be pretty hard for them to tie each laptop to a particular receipt, especially if people in multiple registers are purchasing at the same time.

This is a great deal. After seeing this, I went to cancel the Motile 14" laptop bundle (with backpack and BT mouse) I bought for the same price from Walmart. When I clicked cancel the order, Walmart was only able to cancel the backpack. But it had split the order cost such that the backpack was $60. The end result is that I will get the Motile laptop for $220 + tax, which makes the decision of whether to get this much more difficult. Despite the inferior specs and upgradability, I may still stick with the Motile since this one is 27% heavier (and for me, 27% more expensive as well).

[QUOTE=jackt;131670541]I've already opened up and upgraded this laptop.

Memory:
There are 2 upgradable SODIMM slots. No DRAM is soldered to the motherboard. The laptop comes with a single 4GB SODIMM, and 1 empty slot. I installed Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 2666 MT/s (PC4-21300) SR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT2K8G4SFS8266 and it works well. The Crucial website actually recommends DDR4 3200, but the 4GB SODIMM that came with the laptop is DDR4 2666.

Do you know if this laptop can benefit from higher speed memory, i.e., not artificially limited by Bios to 2666MT/s? Intel CPU spec lists memory type of DDR4-3200 (and probably less common LPDDR4-3733), I am thinking of buying a 16GB Crucial 16GB Single RAM and make it 20GB RAM which will be enough until I need more (Max says 64GB, which is 32GB x2)

If you're keeping the 4GB stick in there you wont be able to go past 2666 by adding a faster stick in the 2nd slot. DDR will run at the speed of the slowest stick. Ideally they are supposed to be matching sticks for best performance. I added 16gb, (the one you linked) for a total of 20GB.
