This seems like a great deal! Currently using a Dell 7559, and I want something more portable. Will return if it isn't an i5.

I know it's been said in this thread, but short answer from an IT guy here: if you're in the market for a new laptop, get this.

Search download Windows 10 and download the Windows installer program (you'll need a 32 GB flash drive) and install that immediately. Then, install HP Support Assist from the Windows store. Run your updates in that program and Windows update and you'll be up and running in no time.

Not sure what software might come pre-installed, but keep in mind you'll lose out on that, but even still I would highly recommend installing Windows 10 versus Windows 10 S.

if upgrading the SSD costs 40 bucks wouldn't it be better to avoid the trouble of opening up the laptop and just buying this model for a little more? https://www.costco.com/hp-14%22-l...11810.html
That one has the i5-1035G1. This one is purported to come with the i5-1035G4. The G1 has 32 EUs, while the G4 has 48 EUs, a 50% difference that will significantly affect graphics performance.

I ran CPU-Z and it shows everything matching the i5- physical and virtual cores, cache info, etc. I ran some other benchmarking software (I forget the name- it's the popular one that compares it to other systems with same components) and it showed a weird default speed plus a message that Windows was throttling. More here: https://slickdeals.net/f/13524451-hp-laptop-intel-core-i3-1005g1-14-1080p-ips-4gb-ddr4-128gb-ssd-win-10-s-279-99-free-shipping-costco?v=1&p=131670541#post131670541
can you run hwinfo64 and prime95 and see if it throttles before 10 minute is up? If so, maybe download a new bios and try it again? and go into the bios and have the fan turned on all the time? last year, had the same problem but the above fixed it.

I am seeing an issue with the fan, it seems to be running all the time even thought the BIOS setting for the keep fan on is disabled. This is really annoying and I might return it for that reason.
Did you find solution to this? I am having the same experience and it is annoying.

Any way to buy this as a non-US resident? I'm arriving after Nov 21st and there's no way I can input my international CC in Costco's site. Also I don't know anyone enough to buy it for me, and there's no place that I've seen that can email me the # of a Cash Card. Seems I'm screwed Frown
I got it through just using all the address besides state and country, first attempt blocked by bank, called and told them it's safe, tried again and went through, just waiting for shipping confirmation on Monday Smilie

yea good point, it also upgrades the ram from 4GB to 8GB

but as someone said, G1 vs G4 on the cpu. I guess performance wise this one is still better

So is the CPU being throttled then? Is that common, or could that explain why it's marketed as i3? If the CPU is throttled, does that affect GPU as well? I'm assuming it would have to since you throttle by reducing the frequency, and that would effect everything. I'm wanting the g4 due to the improved HVEC processing. Hoping this is powerful enough to run 2-3 security cameras and transcode 1 Plex stream.

I'll have this tucked away in the "boiler" room running 24x7, so a noisy fan doesn't bother me.

I did not. I tried changing the fan setting to passive from active in the power settings but no luck.

The display model was an i3 but I gave it a shot and bought one anyway - it's an i3 according to the box Frown. I'll have to think about whether I want to return it or try at another Costco, or just keep it. I guess the display model is a good way to see what the stock is. I checked out the display model, it's definitely not MacBook or XPS grade casing but for the price I think it's totally fine.
