If you buy one, the sticker on the side of the box will show the specs, so you don't even have to open the box to verify.

If you want to verify on the computer itself, if you right-click on "This PC" and go to Properties, it'll show the CPU name.
Thanks!
The printed label says:intel core i5........

This or Lenovo C330 Chromebook deal? Let's get a nice debate going!
It really depends on your use case.

If you want lighter weight, convertible with touch screen, faster boot time, longer battery life, usb-c charging, less maintenance with regard to drivers and updates, I'd go with a chromebook. Maybe not that C330 in particular because the screen doesn't seem great and it may be sluggish.

If you want more processing power, more configurability, and access to a much larger library of applications, go with this one.

I think a lot of people get too lost in specs instead of considering how they'll actually use it for the 2-5 year life of the system. I certainly don't need the upgraded graphics in this system, or the upgraded CPU for that matter. I bet I'd find USB-C charging a lot more useful.

I do need Windows though and this is a really good price for a system with a decent display, easy upgradeability, and is pretty lightweight (I find that most models over 2.5lb are a bit too heavy to carry around the house without feeling its heft). Plus the keyboard has dedicated Home End Pgup and Pgdn keys. That's critically important for me.

So definitely think about how it's gonna be used and what you actually need to be good and what you are OK to sacrifice.

There's a nice Samsung convertible chromebook that will be $300 at Costco on Black Friday if you decide that a chromebook is a better choice for you.

There's also a super nice HP convertible chromebook with good specs - definitely won't be sluggish- on sale at Best Buy right now. The one fault I found with it is it's a bit too heavy for me, at 3.7lb.

As a non computer guy and just need internet and photo storage - how hard is this to do and is it necessary if I don't need it for anything important. I need a laptop, but all this chatter on here has me confused if this is a good deal or nah
1 min to start it and 20 mins for it to complete on its own.

It's not necessary but removed unnecessary apps installed by the manufacture that you don't need.

You won't notice a difference for your uses

Has anyone received the i5 version or is it just the 1 person?

Maybe they grabbed this one by mistake during shipping

No if you read through about 10 pages of the thread it's been confirmed by a ton of people. All of them have i5, just not sure if it's like that for online orders yet as they haven't been delivered. People already posted pictures for upgrades on the internals. This is probably as good as it'll get BF laptop deals I'm guessing.

You are probably OK to just set up the computer as is. Then just uninstall every non-essential app in Windows and in the Microsoft Store.

I also ran one with just the 4GB of RAM that came with it for a while and it did just fine for web browsing, even with several tabs open at once.

Try that and if you find that you need to upgrade things or make more drastic changes to the Windows installation you can cross that bridge when you get there. Costco gives you 90 days to return it so you have time.

Has anyone tested the HDMI port output to a 4k tv or monitor? Will this output 4k60hz? I understand the official Intel spec says 4k120hz but has anyone actually tested the HDMI port's resolution output? I'm try to verify this before I make a decision. This 10th gen i5 is looking very slick to me.

I picked up the Walmart $280 R3-3200U and $400 R5-3500U Motile THX bundles and can confirm both of those laptops' HDMI ports output 4k60hz to my 4k tv.

Also they are very lightweight 14" laptops at 2.55 lbs. Only con right now would be the single channel single SODIMM slot which is a huge bummer for a Ryzen system. I'm not a gamer so it's not a deal breaker but I'm still disappointed by that dumb decision by the manufacturer. Otherwise they are awesome laptops and one can even modify the TDP limits with Ryzen Controller to increase performance or battery life.

Oh yeah and the infrared cameras make logging into Windows (Windows Hello) super fast and easy! I love the infrared cameras more than fingerprint readers.

Finally, get the fan problem figure out! Go to service and disable all the hp garbage, while you at it, turn off windows search too. I am now running 1080p60 youtube video and the fan will occasionally turn on with the lower setting. CPU usage is only 5% running the youtube 1080p60 video too!

With all the HP junks, and windows search off, my battery life also increase by about 1 to 1.5 hrs. Loving this laptop now! Oh! I just timed it, the boot up time is less than 10s including me typing in the login passcode! Can't beat this deal!

For those who are opening / have opened up the computer to upgrade the system, do you know if the heat sink is aluminum or copper?

I have been still doing research on how to keep the cpu as cool as possible in order to avoid the fan from kicking in (it is really noisy when it does!).

And I have come across some youtube videos suggesting that replacing the Thermal Compound can keep the cpu/gpu cool.

This video suggests using "Liquid Metal" can keep a Mac Book Pro from being thermal throttled and and the fans are a lot quieter during intensive tests.

https://youtu.be/iw4gqfrBN4c?t=331

I'm wondering if it's worth changing out the thermal compound, even if it's not Liquid Metal...Any gurus can chime in?

Can you provide a list of services that you stopped/disabled? I am looking at the list of services and there is quite a bit. I just want to make sure I don't stop a service that I need. Thanks!

Did you upgrade the RAM as well or you still have the original 4GB?

There should be only 4 hp services,
-HP Analytics service
-HP App Helper HSA Service
-HP Network HSA Service
-HP System Info HSA Service
-Windows Search

give it a try, My utilization is mostly around 5% to 8%, occasionally will go up to 15% (very rare) running a 1080p60 youtube video! CPU speed is mostly staying around 0.98GHz (will jump to 1.4GHz once in a while...

I haven't open up the laptop yet! So, it is still running with the 4G ram.
