Would like to upgrade my ram. Can someone please provide some recommendation? I am not good at tech, so if you provide detail brand and name or link, it would be greatly appreciated.

Just came back from picking one up this evening from Costco in Signal Hill, CA. I can confirm that the label on box shows Intel Core i5-1035G4 Processor. I may keep this for my son for school work. Just upgrade the RAM and maybe the SSD later.
Hey that's my CostCo! I order mine online after confirming it in store. Guess worst case if i get a i3 i'll ask for a swap. Any luck with the 2.5 SSD upgrade?

It's also possible (and easy) to upgrade the M.2 slot SSD, and since it looks to be hard or impossible to add a 2.5" drive to this laptop, he could be referring to that.

Hey guys I think I figured out a good solution to the fan noise.

For me, it was more of a shrill whistle? I don't mind the sound of a fan - however I hate it when I can hear a high-pitched whistle that was extremely noticeable at random intervals.

I took some masking tape and covered up 4 or 5 inches of the bottom holes on the left side. And so this slows down the air, and completely eliminates the whistle. Now, it's just a blowing noise, and I can feel the air is coming in from the right side on the bottom (which is better anyway, makes the air travel a bit further and cool down more things before being sent out above the F4 key)

I ran a bunch of benchmarking tests and there's really no difference. The cpu gets throttled down anyway when it gets too hot, but I didn't notice any difference in the tests I ran, tape vs no tape.

I ordered some ram and a new ssd:
Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Laptop Memory Model CT2K8G4SFS832A
Inland Premium 512GB 3D NAND M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive

Honestly I felt kind of stupid getting those because it's already so fast anyway, and I probably didn't need to spend another $140 to speed it up further. But I guess I did, so...

i originally bought a costco membership for some tommy bahama chairs/umbrella for beach going with the intent of cancelling after a year and getting a refund.

i ended up spending about $2500 over the year between the cheap gas, a cell phone deal, last years hp laptop for a family member and food. I ended up taking family with me and we'd just casually shop and try the samples . . . hell pick up dinner from the prepared food section.

It was worth the $60
Costco has does not require membership.

Does it matter if it's dual or single ranked?

Is the USB-C thunderbolt? If not would an external gpu be possible to connect?
No. Egpu only works with Thunderbolt 3, preferably with 4 lane pci-e.

It depends on what you need, but the i5 is like about twice as fast as the Ryzen 3.
Do a google search on passmark on both CPUs and compare and which one you like better. Bigger screen vs twice as fast CPU.

wait bruh, savage! how did you return the 2018 one a year later?
Costco is very strict to enforce the 90 days policy, at least my store. I had purchased two lg monitors earlier this year and did not open one of them until the date right after the three month mark. Found 2 dead pixels in the middle of the screen and both local warehouse and online agent rejected my return. Went to another warehouse and finally they allowed me to return and rebuy the same monitor.

Depends, if you were male or female, I usually ask my wife to return it and they tend to say 1 time exchange.

This will probably get buried, but definitely download the trackpad and wifi drivers to another USB before clean-installing Windows 10, or you may find yourself in a tight spot. The keyboard shortcut to boot from USB is F9.
I heav't done it in a while...did you navigate to the drivers directory to copy or you downloaded fresh from the site?

The 2018s were available as recently as a couple weeks ago. I just picked up two at the end of October when they were $249 as that was $50 cheaper than any point prior. I doubt anyone is abusing the return policy, they just likely haven't owned them for 90 days.
