No shit! I installed a 16GB stick (total 20GB now) and the CPU passmark jumped to 9458 (from 8020). Memory mark is now at 2794. Disk mark (original disk) and 3D got better too, but 2D dropped a little. Overall my Passmark rating is now 3617, compared to 2847 a couple hours ago. Again, all I did was to add the RAM stick. I'll do the HD tomorrow as it's pretty late now and I need to figure out the best way to dual boot.

What it comes down to is that shipping any system with 4GB of memory these days is nothing more than a scam. Like putting a 40 proof liquor inside a 86 proof "capable" bottle and letting you figure out that you will have to add extra alcohol to get the buzz you were expecting.

Glad to get that info. The % increase is spot on with what I was expecting. That is about half from dual channel and half from more ram!

Awesome deal, ordered one, hoping on the i5 aswell, and yes those new CPUs support 3200MHz DDR4 RAM comparing to the old 8th gen max of 2667MHz, planning on getting a nice 2x8GB kit when they go on sale for BF

the 10th gen i5 in this laptop is about 10% faster than i5-8520U and 2x better in the graphics department, also it should run much more cooler as is 10nm build
I hope man, 3200mhz laptop ram rarely goes on sale, might have to settle for 2666mhz at CL16, which is pretty good. 16gb kit under 70 post-tax right now, not sure if it's worth waiting for like a $5 discount, who knows!

Man the lowest setting of 2400 MHz for this will be fine since no games are involved!

Got the cancellation email too. If it helps (or hurts), I chose for it to ship directly to me, not the warehouse.

Not quite the same...apples to oranges, but in case someone would have an idea:

But how would this compare the Late 2013 MacBook Pro (2.3 GHz Core i7-4850HQ)?

This deal will likely beat any BF laptop deal. Intentional or not, thanks Costco for the i5 upgrade!

For sure if you upgrade the RAM. If you leave it at 4GB you have a muscle car on snow tires.

I immediately uninstalled the offer lol . . . .didn't want anything taking resources from this thing. Sticking with Windows Defender and the occasional Malwarebytes scan

My plan exactly!

Yeah, I plan to upgrade the RAM like most of us here. But even at 4GB, Grandma and Grandpa will be fine with the stock setup for under $300.

It's probably less due to more RAM, vs. the fact you added a 2nd stick and got benefit of dual-channel being enabled. So, whatever size stick anyone installs, you'll get a decent boost.

Would not be an upgrade. That machine has life left. If it needs more ram or SSD, hit up macsales or ebay. If you cant do it yourself, any computer shop can install what you get for just a few $. You will have to upgrade ram on this.

Sure-- but an i3 would be fine as well.
