Allen Edmonds offers an Extra 20% Off select Men's Sale Shoes (discount automatically applied in cart). Shipping is free on $75+ orders. Thanks daisybeetle
I wouldn't do it unless you can sort through the shoes in store. Or buy 8 pairs at a time. I'm not exaggerating the quality control is that bad. Took over 6 pairs of AE fifth ave and I gave up the exchange game getting clearly shoes that would be considered seconds. Finally settled on the 8th pair of Park Avenues I got.

I've got a pair of Meermins and a pair of Tyrwhitts, and the leather is a tad nice on most of my AEs. This will be my fourth pair of AE shoes, and I ordered all three previous pair online and had no issues. It's my (baseless) suspicion that this thread is featuring a lot of selection bias of commenters only speaking up when they've had a negative experience. Not in any way to diminish the negative experience any of you may have had. but overall I've been very happy with the AE shoes I've purchased in recent years.
I used to be happy until the rebrand. Once the rebrand happened and they started making shoe bags extra it went downhill. Customer service now takes 2-3 days to send back a generic message and ignore the issue. Quality is that bad check youtube videos.

You have a point on the confirmation bias. People usually only comment when there is an issue and this means a lot of anecdotal feedback. I can say, having gone through two AE purchases in the last couple months, there's been some regression in the brand overall. I am not sure if it is tied to the drive to cut cost or an effort to go more mainstream. These are not cheap shoes so many of us are compelled to expect a higher level of consistent quality.

You're right. Sure, their QC may have gone down, but this is turning into the customer complaint/ vent section. For what it's worth, I have 5 pairs of Allen Edmonds (Walnut Strands, Higgins Mill, Jefferson, 5th Ave, and their Canal Ct sneakers), all bought online, all excellent quality shoes, with only one pair (the Strands I bought from Nordstrom) requiring in-store exchange (it had one loose thread).
Their customer service is actually excellent, and it really helps to have an AE store (or 2) in your area.
PS ... I heard Thursday Boot and Beckett Simonon mentioned: these are NOT anywhere in the same quality range as AE. Thursday Boots are made in Mexico (and use an imitation-style chromexcel leather which is inferior to AE's Horween) and Beckett Simonon shoes are not even goodyear welted (they are Blake welted).
I got these Strand, McTavish, Park Ave, Central Park, Barrett, Jefferson.
Had to exchange McTavish thrice. Finally gave up when the 3rd was also defective. Barrett I exchanged twice, the second does not even qualify for seconds but forgot to send it back and still have it.
Jefferson was good although it was from seconds. And so was Central Park.
All in all, I think the quality control has gone downhill. If you don't have an outlet nearby then don't gamble on seconds. And brace yourself for exchanges if buying firsts.
Allen Edmonds are basically made in the Dominican Republic-not the USA!! They make the upper of the shoe in the DR. They then ship the upper to the US where the sole is put on the upper...this is how they get away with saying made in the USA. So, of course shoes won't match-they are not made as a pair like most high end shoes are. The cost on a pair of these is around $30 some dollars (probably has changed since I worked there). I used to be proud to work for this employer, during the Stollnwerk days especially! I am proud to say I got out when they decided to lose their integrity.

Came here to explain just this.
Since DR move, I've had to return 2 pairs of mail ordered Dalton's that were so crooked to be unwearable. Finally accepted third pair that had sewing issues, misaligned upper, but could at least fit a human leg.
When a store opened nearby last year, I custom ordered Park Ave in 12E with Dainite soles and they were great, except for some minor scratches that I'd have after a month anyway. I don't know it it was luck, or if they do better on store orders.
Surprised at all the bad comments, I have maybe 4 pairs - all very comfortable. One I got used (cordovan) and has lasted me 8 years. I keep them at the office and wear them 3 days a week. They could be recrafted, but that's still not necessary.
Most recent pair are a bit less consistent in the leather, but honestly - once you polish and wear them, don't even notice.
Now that I've seen the Chromexcel, I can't go for the sale one. Or at least, would want to get the weatherproof ones.
My Order For Higgins Mill in Black was just CANCELLED.
I was expecting something like this because the last time they ran an Extra 20% Off sale they sent me a totally different Chukka than I ordered due to stocking issues.
Waiting to see if they deliver on my Leeds 2 Derby.
Please post any difficulties with orders that you have so that I won't feel so bad.

Mine too got canceled. It feels like Deja Vu all over again, though I was prepared this time, LOL.
For those using gift cards, note that AE does not refund your card when they cancel an order. You have to call them and only then do they issue a ticket to get the refund issued in a day/ two. Shady business practice. Like I said above, their CS has regressed.
I just another 20% off the boots I bought before and those were already 50%. Thanks OP!
Note: the first boots I got were too big so I had to return them anyway, but they also had an eyelet far off of center. I would have sent that pair of boots back even if they did fit. The second pair is great!

By the way, anyone have these and care to comment on how the sizing runs ? True to size or?

Made in USA too.
