We cannot be paid to post a deal. Sites do send over offers, yes. But it is no different really than getting a promotional email to your personal inbox.
Actually this sat for a good while with no attention.
Some deals are worked out with merchants, yes. Most of what I post though I find organically.
No one can pay to have a deal frontpaged, and no one can pay to have a deal posted. I post what I think are good deals, from stores I like, for items I like (or think others will like).
I researched this before posting. At the time I researched, I could not find a price close to this. And no 3rd parties can promote their deals here, it is forbidden.
I always encourage people to research before buying. It just makes sense. I never assume that someone will see a deal here and buy blindly, nor would I want that. As for my deals, I have no "skin in the game" so to speak. If a deal I post is a success, it makes absolutely no difference to me than if it was a failure. But if it was a success, I might get a slight sense of joy that I helped people.
As for "sucker deals", I take exception to this, as I could not find a price close to what this is being offered for. If you can find a better deal, please post it.
Am I being cynical by thinking this is some sort of paid promo from MW? The coupon code is SLICKMHWDEAL. Coincidence the wording is the same as this site?
I've had great experience with MH stuff over the years - fleeces, shirts, jackets, hoodies, and even a tent. Everything I've had has held up very well and I don't expect this jacket to be any different.
As Winter outdoor enthusiasts, we took a different approach with our kids. They always got good Winter gear (Patagonia, MH, Mammut, Arc' Teryx, etc). Good gear purchased on sale, passed down to younger siblings then sold at a decent price have worked out well. There's a Patagonia down jacket in the family that went from brother to sister to cousin to cousin to cousin that's finally looking like it needs to be sent back to Patagonia for recycle after this season.
Yeah, that's a good approach if you are able to do that. Kids grow out of things pretty quickly so one season is usually the most they will get. If you have multiple kids than you can save money in the long run with hand me downs.

Slickdeals does this with a lot of merchants. Nothing cynical but good observation

SD has long been getting kickbacks from "deals" they post as front page. This is nothing new.

I tried this on in-store 2 days ago, to compare it to the Ghost Whisperer. It's a little thicker and heavier than the GW, but overall, still feels nice. If it hadn't been so expensive, I might've bitten, but I'm still waiting for the Ghost Whisperer to go on sale. Good price for this, though.
One note for those of you that haven't shopped with MH directly.... I don't know if this is for everything they sell but once I had to send a jacket back because it didn't fit right. I had to pay the shipping to send it back to them. That was a bit annoying because most of the online merchants I shop with have some kind of free returns on clothing/apparel.... especially if it does not fit right.
I still support MH because I love their products and I'm willing to take this chance when they offer discounts this good (which happens several times throughout the year).
I just picked up Marmot's Avant Featherless Hoody for $110 AC. Am wondering if the Hotlum can compare at ~$80? I do like the look of the Hotlum but it's 650 feather vs 700 featherless fill.
Comes down to packability, quality of the shell material and water resistance. This is a good deal considering its ripstop and RDS down. The marmot will perform better wet but 30D is better than 20D nylon.
